BAGGED HILUX/TACOMA DUAL CAB

LOWBAG

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, this is my 99' HIlux dually. Had it for 10 years, in that time it has had two major build. I have recently completed the second.

It's bagged with 20" Intro Billets, Shaved off most of the body panels and added an American Tacoma Front clip. It has 88' Caddy tail lights on the rear with a hidden tow hitch behind the fold down number plate.

Engine is a 2.7 ltr turbo charged running Motec ECU and bigger fuel system etc. Big 343mm brakes up front help it stop. Custom leather interior running bench seats front and rear hotrod style.

Air suspension controls mounted in hood lining.

hey dude, after talking to my cousin from vegas about cars he kept telling me that the US tacoma is very similar to our hilux. I always thought if i had a hilux id probebly do the same face transplant you did! how easy was it to install the tacoma face onto the aussie hilux?

There are a few mods you have to do with the skirts and the front bar mounts to mount the Tacoma front. Depends how fussy you are i suppose. Personally i don't think it is a very difficult job just a little time consuming. If you know anyone looking for a complete front Tacoma clip the same as the one on my truck, i have a couple myself at the moment that i am trying to move.

LOWBAG; Hows the ride comfort on bags? I heard they are better than stock, but i also heard its like a waterbed feel. Im just curious on what your oppinion was on the ride comfort on bags? Heard its more for show and shouldnt really be used on a daily driver?

I am pretty happy with the way the truck handles, i have mounted the bags as far outboard as possible both front and rear and am running short Koni adjustable shocks. It also runs an adjustable parallel four link rear end with an adjustable watts link set up.

Just to give you an idea i did run it at Sydney Powercruise this year and kept up with some cars that i originally thought would not be possible, i was quite surprised.

I find the ride acceptable for a daily, basically the more pressure you run the firmer it gets. When setting up you need to work out your optimum driving height and make sure when you install the bag it's at it's optimum working pressure/height. If that makes sense.

Most guys, especially with minitrucks are aiming to go as low as possible but this will never give you good handling. I tried to find a happy medium with my truck.

I think the reason people have the impression bags handle like a boat is because most guys use a cantilever setup on the rear of their trucks and these setups usually do handle like boats.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Dean

Good first hand info there. So they technically work similar to that of coilovers where height can be changed and obviously the lower you get the more firmer it is. I like the idea of choosing a ride height to suit my day all from a flick of a switch. Cheers for that info mate. Might need to research this abit more
