Harro, I m currently in the market for a AE111 (and hopefully can say goodbye to my old but reliable gen 3 camry). Just want to know what are the general things to look for on these cars. I understand they are imports so would sourcing parts be difficult, in terms of performance is it possible to use parts from other toyotas on it?

the general service parts should be available from your local dealer (filters, clutch kit etc). If it's the superstrut version then you will have a hard/expensive time getting things like replacement ball joints, tie rod ends, brake discs, struts etc. Sourcing things like replacement windscreens can also be a pain.

Listen for a rattle from the top end of the engine at idle when it's warm, that usually indicates a worn/failing VVT pulley which is ~$800 for the replacement part.
