Prado 2007 Diesel Engine seized 200,000 km

As a current owner of a 2007 Prado diesel I was concerned to see a friends prado the same age with a few more kms on the clock seize up a few weeks ago. The story he is getting from the dealer is that there was a carbon buildup in the oil pump pickup which restricted the oil flow and the engine locked up. Has any one heard of a similar case. As a long term toyota owner of hj47, hj75 and hzj75 all of which have done over 400,000 km without any major engine trouble I am somewhat perplexed as to this engine failure at very low kms. Interested to here if this is unusual. Cheers Laurence.

My 07 Prado just had an engine seizure with the same problem, my Hilux (same engine) also seized with 103 000km, which Toyota repaired under warranty, but never explained the cause for the failure. Research on the internet reveals that this seems to be a rather common problem
