Boot support

its a corolla sedan AE 82 1988 model

the boot keeps falling down

the two torsion bars are in place but not working

is there a trick to how the torsion bars are set

a picture of a working set up/ end location of bars

would be good

tried a few things but the boot keeps dropping

They probably need regassing called srtuts. or go to toyota/wreckers get some new ones.

Boots with torsion-bars don't use gas struts...

I was thinking if I couldn,t work out

the torsion bar problem

has anyone fitted gas struts to a boot

to add struts would mean welding brackets

for strut supports to the boot lid

got a look at a working boot

and the small metal straps which are shaped in a U

are both bent and broken ..not sure if welding

the broken straps will take the tension

wreckers want a fortune for a working system

so a gas lift build might be a good fix

now that the car is on the road

the boot not staying up is a real problem

can anyone give me advice on fitting

a gas strut to the boot

one gas strut should do the job

cheapest bet is to go to a DIY wrecker, then compare with what you have.

then buy any parts that are missing.

the holding strap seems to be part of the boot hinge

and is riveted to it (dont know how to remove the whole hinge)

wreckers not an option for me atm

Tried a gas lift system but boot space was compromised

because it needed two struts and they had to be mounted

on the floor of the boot and to the hinges

will post when I have a fix
