how cheap are they? I got Bridgestone OEM tyres for $400 each all up from K Mart a couple of weeks ago...

ok ,my local tyre dealer quoted $500 ea for the bridgestones , havent got a kmart close to me but will go for a drive to save 100 X4

Pays to ring a few places. I rang 6 tyre retailers and prices ranged from $580 (Bridgestone store) to $400! The Kmart was part of my local Shell servo

If you get them from the USA get them from Tirerack. Great service and damn good shipping prices since they have good deals with the shipping companies. International sales you need to contact them by email.

Just for **** and giggles I plugged in the tyres for the 19"

Bridgestone Dueler 245/55R19 are $189 each.

I wonder how much international shipping is. That's quite a good price compared to local.

Just did. Asked for a quote on shipping 5 to Melbourne, and asked about if the cost comes down for larger quantities (for group buys).

Will let everyone know the outcome.

Actually, that's a good point. Need to keep the order sub $1k so as not to get stung on that I seem to recall.

if you order tyros that made in the US, you will exempt from tax due to trade agreement. I have paper to prove it. I brought 4 Duelar Avenis 255/45 19. $1000 plus postage from tirerack.

no tax

but you have to wire the money in as they do not do cards. that cost another $25 or so.

Be careful on this. My understanding is that there are two components to any tax payable. Customs duty and Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Even if any FTA exists, it would only exempt you to pay the customs duty, but the GST would still apply for imports over $1000.

Maybe you just snuck through? It also depends on what the sender puts does as the value on the commercial invoice.

There are some exemptions to GST, but I don't think tires fall into any categories

So shipping to my address in Melbourne is $343 (or near $1k express).

So.

$945 - 5 x tyres (Bridgestone Dueler 245/55R19 $189 ea)

$343 - Shipping

$129 - GST (will likely get pinged on the way in)

$100 - fit and balance (guesstimate)

-----

$1517 - total - or about $300 per tyre fitted and balanced.

Plus the pain of carting some tyres to your local tyre place to get fitted.

I should add - I've not done any currency conversion given how close the US and AU dollars are. So take currency fluctuations into account when working out if this is good for you.

The magic number is $1000 AUD. Anything under that Australian customs is not interested in. Over $1000 (total value of goods not including freight) they slap on GST, Declaration Processing Charge, Line Transport and Insurance charge. For a $1660AUD Network Attached Storage Device I had to pay Australian Customs all these fees totalling $229.28 before they would release from the bond store! All these costs are quoted directly from my Customs Tax Invoice.

When I spoke to Customs they said to remember the $1000 limit. In this case it was pointless as the unit was a singular item that could not be broken down into individual parts to values of less than $1000 in total.

Its also based on the value of the entire shipment not each individual item within that shipment!

i dont buy tires from there myself but we take a lot of our company vehicals there

asked him for his best price

came back with 325$ each for OE Bridgestones :clap:

id still like to get some decent off road tires thou for a trip to darwin and the center in 18 months

Given my import research, I'd be going with that. Sounds quite reasonable.

      1zz-fe engine rebuild

      Hello all, Working on my 2002 corolla. It needs a engine rebuild due to burning oil out the back. It has over 400,000 km on it and I havent looked after it. Everything is still original on the motor. The only thing that I have replaced, was the brushes on the alternator. They were completely worn out. I am pulling the motor/gearbox out of the car. Wont know the condition of the block or head until I strip it down. I know the design of the piston where changed in the 2003+ models for more oil holes, which stopped the buring of oil. 1. Was there any other changes made ? 2. Does anyone know of where I can get a engine rebuild kit for 1zz-fe motor in australia ? 3. I have only found one place that I can get a new short motor built but that is in the USA and they do ship to australia but was hoping to find something in australia Thanks for help. Dragon

      2007 Corolla Sedan rear seatbelt question

      Hi everyone, new member here. I've got a small problem which I'm hoping you can help me sort out. I've read the "read me first" thread and done a forum search so apologies if this ends up being a repost. Ok, so I've just has a bloody mouse chew through the rear seat and half (but only half) of every rear seatbelt. Which is nice. So I need to replace them. The problem I appear to have is that none of the local breakers have any suitable vehicles that I can pull them from and the ones I ordered and was sent from the bay of fleas has the wrong brackets on, despite being allegedly for that vehicle. Further searches come up with every seller showing the wrong bracket, so either I've got a special car which is different just because, or (more likely) they don't know their ****s from their elbows what they're selling. I'm after some aftermarket ones as they never get used and just need to be there to get through rego so don't really want to spend a heap of cash I don't have on genuine parts if I can avoid it. I've replaced the centre one (a mate just randomly had it in a box in his shed, which was handy) but still need the left and right. I've attached the bracket type I pulled from the car and need. Is this a standard generic Toyota seatbelt or specific to the 2007 Corolla sedan? Does is need to be specifically for the rear left and right or do front ones fit? Does anyone know where I can source an aftermarket pair? I will really, really appreciate any help offered with this, I know my way around a box of tools but very little about mechanikicing (which is part of the reason why I bought this car - something simple to learn on as repairs/replacements become due) and this is a simple fix which is turning into a drawn out headache.       Hi all, Wondering if anyone has had this issue. I recently purchased a 2007 200 series landcruiser, and the amplifier for the air con unit stopped working. Part number 88650-60D60. (Looks like a circuit board) All controls for the air con now do not work, very frustrating in winter when you dont have any way to unfog your windscreen. Toyota have informed me that they no longer produce this part, and there is nothing superseeded to fit in it's place. My question is has anyone had this problem? If so what did you do to fix it? I have got onto an auto sparky who has had a go at fixing the circuit board but its unserviceable. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

      Engine oil dipstick reading

      Hi guys, Probably a silly question... I'm having trouble reading my engine oil dipstick on my Toyota Hilux 2010 3.0 Turbo Diesel. I have warmed up the engine, turned off for ~10 minutes, parked on a level surface. Pulled out the dipstick, wipe it and insert it back to the bottom and carefully lift it up. I tried so many times and the two sides always look different. I couldn't read it. Maybe I just don't understand how to read it. Could someone help? Thanks a lot!!!
