If it's like an Estima (Japanese Tarago) you need to program the key "chip" into the body ECU. This needs the correct programmer.

The cheapest way is take your working key to a "Mister Minute" and have both the key cut and chip duplicated,

It cost me $70 all up.

I got this info from a lock smith company, not used it yet as I need a reliable source for a new key with transponder at a sensible price.

For ACR30

  1. Key removed from the ignition
  2. Drivers door open, all other doors closed
  3. Insert key into ignition then remove it - do this twice
  4. Close and Open drivers door twice
  5. Insert the key into the Ignition then remove it
  6. Close and Open drivers door twice
  7. Close the door and Insert key into the ignition
  8. Turn ignition from o to on and back to o - once to add a new remote while retaining the original remotes, and twice to erase original remotes
  9. Remove the key from the ignition cylinder
  10. (Locks will cycle once for adding remote, and twice if erase mode was selected)
  11. Press the Lock and Unlock Buttons on the remote at the same time for 1 second
  12. Press any button on the remote
  13. (Door locks will cycle once if programming is correct, and twice if unsuccessful)
HTH
PS anyone know where to get a reliable key with chip in Sydney?

Where did you go? I asked in Mister Minute in the Macquarrie Centre and they quoted $400!

If you have been quoted $400 that is for a remote key not for a standard key. Mister Minute will be cloning you keys transponder so these wont need to be coded into your car, it isn't the most ideal way to do it but it is cheaper and that's what customers want right.

If you have a look in this thread - http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/41044-tarago-2002-fixing-door-handle-brake-lights-programming-keyremote-running-camera-wire/

I have posted the procedure for coding in a new Master key and remote.
