Flood damage to Supra

Hi guys

we have a 1996 Supra non-turbo which got caught up in the garage during the recent floods and was filled with water halfway to the speed guages.. I worked a bit on the car after the water had receded and did the following

1] took out the battery and hosed the radiator

2] cleaned the aircon unit ( looks like the smaller verson of the radiator ) with a damp cloth.

3] removed all the lights and indicators wiped all wiring and dried the light assembly for a couple of days.

4] removed the dashboard panels and used a Hair dryer to blow the electricals behind the speedometer for about an hour. Have Still kept the panels open to get whatever little evaporation i can

5] checked no water in the Engine oil

6] Petrol tank same level as before (luckily my wife had a peek at the petrol Level when she was driving home before)

7] no water in Brake fluid

8] no water in power steering fluid

9] no water dripping from the aircon vents

10] removed mats seat covers and all fixtures in the boot.

11] Removed the panels around the gear knob and used a sponge to wipe all wires and clean the area of water and dirt.

12] Have left the handbrake off

13] unplugged as many electrical connectors as i could and cleaned them

I contacted the Toyota service stations and apparently they dont touch the Supra since its an imported model :(

i do not have much experience in repair work but someone told me that there are 3 important peices i have missed and need to clean ASAP. The spark Plugs, the differential and the starter motor.

I tried starting the car after doing all this with the old battery but i do not get any charge (remote access to door does not work as well which might mean that there is something wrong with the battery but not sure)

Do you guys know of any good mechanic around Brisbane who might want to take up the challenge for getting it up and running. I am not worried about the interiors and the fancy stuff. just want it up and running roadworthy. I can spare about $10K to get this up and running and time is not the issue as we were on the verge of buying another Car so would not mind if this one takes months to fix. Any advise would be really appreciated.

Sorry to say but water damage especially up to the guages just may be terminal. If you really are attached to the car you will need to remove any computer/ECU modules and clean them and any terminal plugs out ASAP. The longer you leave them the harder it gets to fix. I would recommend that you get in really fast with a few cans of CRC, WD40 or another good quality water displacing spray. Spray all the conections liberally with this to help prevent corrosion in the terminal blocks. I have never pulled apart a later model Japanese car but I would believe that there will be dozens of connectors under the dash which will have been submerged. Remove the starter and alternator wash/submerge them in diesel to prevent internal corrosion and have them checked by an auto electrician. Probably will be better to strip them down before even trying to start or crank the motor. If you need a starter or alternator I will be able to get these at a wholesale price if we stock the one you need. Please PM me if you want. I work for an importer of starters alternators and parts.
