Can anyone tell me what the expected fuel economy figures are for an 1996 80 series (1fz-fe 4.5l 6cyl petrol engine). I am currently getting approx 27l 100km which seems a bit heavy.

Good morning & welcome to The Club

I love GOOGLE. I found quite a lot of info by yping 'fuel economy 1fz-fe'. Seems that you are not the only one with issues of fuel consumption.

Some of the info seems to point to poor breathing and exhaust as a problem. There also was some info regarding ignition timing being too far retarded.

There is a lot of info but much of that is unsolicited and may need to be taken with a grain of salt. ie. (buy a diesel) Obviously not the preferred option for you.

Hope this helps Sorry I cant be of much assistance.

I get about 18-22L/100km on my 1998 landcruser 4.5L I6. What pressure are your tyres? Mine are pumped up 40psi front and 36psi back COLD.

Hi There,

Owned an 80 series auto, 1997 model for 8 years and never had economy that bad even with out caravan on! Worst was 20lt/100k towing our 1500kg van. Usual was 15-16lt/100k without van. A thirsty beast anyway but worth checking injectors and breathing etc.

I have a 1997   4.5 lt petrol Landcruiser with poor fuel consumption it has a 2.5 inch exhaust system with extractors. Could not having a Catalytic converter with out any exhaust emission sensor be the problem.
