Hey guys,

Just needed some help with choosing oil for a 1997 TOYOTA COROLLA AE102R CONQUEST. Does anyone know what the best oil is for this car?

Cheers.

check the FAQ at the top

im sure someone is gonna lock this?

Didnt find anything in relation to the car specified and oil to use for it in the FAQ you suggested. If you know where it is then let me know.

I have always run shell semisynthetic 10-40w (in the blue bottle) in my miss's ae102r. It seems to love it, doesn't use any oil and keeps everything nice and clean

Appreciate the help mate.

Just that the oil in the car now is heaps runny. Ill try it out.

10w40 should do the job well

it depends also how many km's you got on it as well.

Someone I think has posted that once these past 150,000 that they become suckers for oil...

I was overly keen and did mine with 5w40... bit thin, will definately go back to 10w40 after...

Its a normal corolla, Your not after performance with it just get it basic engine oil, Service it regulary, car will stay clean.

Using a better oil or a normal oil, doesnt make your car end up a crap box, Better oils are used for more newer cars and performance.

The cars done 220000kms. Oil thats running in it now is just way to thin.

Personally with my experience, 10W40 is too thin. Toyota themselves recommend either 15W40 or 20W50 in the manual, and that is from factory in a perfectly new tight engine - anything with 200,000+k under its belt will most likely need something thicker. I've been running Penrite HPR30 for several years now with no problems, but if you're just after an everyday runaround oil then just go for good old Castrol GTX (and GTX2/GTX3 if they still make it).
