I have got a 99 Corolla Levin/Seca ( not to sure which as the car doesn't have the badges, and nowhere int he paper it says what it is). Anyway, got home one night from going to the shop and got to our front gate and the car just died. Sort of like it stalled (but it wasn't in gear). It made no unusual noises when it died. Haven't been able to get it started since. It tries to start, but cam don't turn, pretty sure crank shaft is turning. Pretty sure there is no problem with the cranks shaft. Had a read on a few forums, and a lot said that it may of been the fuel pump (which is in gas tank), so we bought a new fuel pump put that in, and still nothing. Nothing else on any other forums have given us any idea as to what it maybe, so am hoping someone on here may be able to give us a few suggestions. We live bout 10km's out of town so it is a little difficult for us to get it to a mechanic, or get one to come to us. We are not with the RAA either.

Please Help as i do like this car, and would love to get it working again.

Thanks

First thing im going to ask, is do you have fuel in your tank? next, check your distributor cap and make sure there is no moisture.

Yes there is half a tank of petrol, and there is no moisture in the distributor cap.

what do you mean the cam doesnt turn? With the distributor cap off and you crank the engine over does the rotor button rotate?

no it doesn't and have checked everything up to the timing belt and nothing is turning while trying to start the car. Have checked a few online manuals and apparently the timing doesn't go out on this model so i am unsure as to what it could be stopping the engine from starting. And the check engine light hasn't come on at all, so would it be possible the electrics for the fuel pump have stopped working?

If nothing is turning, it's your starter motor. If it's making a noise but nothing is turning over. Your starter motor is spinning but it's not engaging.

[/quoBut the strter motor wouldn't of made it stall the way it did.

starter motor?, they said the car stalled, when cranking the engine, does the crankshaft pulley rotate? if the crank pulley rotates and the cam gear doesnt , your timing belt has crapped its self. the teeth have probably sheared off the belt Has the car every had it changed, they should be changed every 90-100,000kms

Yeah that is what my partner was thinking, he is gonna have a look tomorrow (well try and get to it), and will let ya know how it goes. Not sure when it was changed last, as I have had the car for 3yrs, and it hasnt been changed while i have had it, but got some of the old service logs. Thanks my partner didnt want to be pulling to much apart in case he was going in the wrong direction.
