I am short sighted and need glasses to see far away or at night. However, i've noticed that the lights glare through my glasses and it is really bad during busy traffic. I dont drive in peak hour much so it has not bothered me.

I was just wondering if this is normal or should i go get new glasses?

i have no idea, they're quite old. Im thinking its best to go to my optom and having a talk with him.

Modern glasses should have coatings on them. I wear glasses too and I never have any problem with glares when I drive.

If your glasses are quite old, your eyes may have changed over that time, so a new eye test would be the best thing to do first. This will show whether you will need the same strength glasses or a different strength. As mentioned by others, glasses today come with various types of coatings that you can get.

I wear bi-focals with transition lenses (act like sunglasses outside) but virtually clear when inside, and these help with glare at night especially with the new brighter type head lights.

Old glasses will have micro chips and scratches which will cause light to scatter into your eye. Since i have private health insurance i get my glasses done each year which minimizes the amount of scratches and chips.

lol @ using the word spectacles!!!

I have some glasses that have a glare reduction coating on them that works a treat. If you are with a health fund expect to only pay around $100 for a new set.
