LED headlight modules.

Came across a link to these low beam & high beam LED headlight modules (Similar to the Hella one, but with LEDs.). $880 each though. ADR approved, though I guess things are different for commercial/ specialty vehicles (Does not mention auto-levelling or self levelling.).

It's good to see that they are starting to produce them for real world use (maybe not for passenger vehicle use yet, but they are getting there), however LED's have a bit of a way to come in terms to being truly efficient. HID's still win hands down in that department. If we base a 55W headlight bulb on 1200 lumens, these 23W LED modules at 1000 lumens (shown on their website), and 35W HID's at 3200 lumens, we get:

Halogen: ~21 lumens per watt

LED: ~ 43 lumens per watt

HID: ~91 lumens per watt

When you consider that HID's set you back at least half of those LED's, their cost per lumen is at worst half that of the LED's.

But all that said, it's still good to see LED's working their way into use like that. Just a little unfortunate that they aren't quite 'there' yet.
