05 Sportivo loses electrics while driving

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone can offer some advice, I was driving on the freeway this morning and noticed the radio cutting out and a few seconds later I lost all electrics, the entire dash went dead for a few seconds before coming back on. This is the first time this has happened so I'm a bit worried, has anyone encountered this before? Or anyone have an idea what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

I would of suggested taking ur ac panel off and check the connection but that won't effect the radio..

Do the aportivoa have a bcm? Body control module? Check connections I reckon.

Monitor the problem see if it was a 1 off or a few curing situation.

Are there any recommendations on how to check if its the alternator? Something worth mentioning is the central locking didn't work once I got to work, after starting the car and switching it off this worked fine. The car drove normally on the way home with none of the earlier signs and no warning lights coming on at all.

Try cleaning the battery terminals because they can develop a resistive connection at the + or - post.

If it happens again check if a post is hot , this will indicate a resistive connection.

How many km's has it done? I think it sounds like an alternator issue. Could be as simple as worn (or excessively dirty) brushes. I've never actually had to touch the alternator in any of my stivos, but it most likely has a removable brush block with a voltage regulator on it. Try pulling it out and having a look at it.
