That's interesting information as I'm thinking of removing the balance shaft from th 5SFE engine in my Camry.

I understand that I will need to block off the lube oil gallery. I'm guessing I will need to tap a thread in it to take a set screw to plug it up.

Any comments welcome.

You will gain extra engine vibrations as they are there to dampen that. You may gain a light increase in acceleration, however it is generally a better idea to carry it out when rebuilding an engine as you can then balance the internals in the process. As far as blocking the gallery, it is fairly easy.

Excellent reply Trent, thanks.

Accordingly, I won't be doing it on mine. This engine has only done 125,000 klms and I won't be overhauling it.

This one will probably see me out; I turn seventy next year and don't do many kilometers.
