hi all,

i have a 2007 turbo diesel hilux which i've bought about a year ago, and only recently, the engine have being playing up,

irrespective of which gear, i get a loss of power,

have taken it to toyota and they couldn't help because no error was logged,

finally the check engine light came on and i took it to my local mechanic and found the fault

i'm not sure if this exactly correct but its carbon build up, picked up by a sensor in the EGR valve?

so i've contacted Toyota and asked what they will do to fix this problem,

this is their reply

To remove clean egr valve, pipes and cooler assembly.

Removed injectors and replace seals, o rings.

Carry out on car injector cleaning.

May require addition parts replaced found on disassembly.

so my question is has anyone got this done? how much $?

any cheaper alternative to fix the problem

i've added injector cleaner to the tank (second tank on cleaner) and done some highway kms to try and flush out the carbon, does this actually work?

thanks and look forward to your advice...

cheers

Carbon build up--too much idling, partic. direct injection motors, or worn/glazed bore/rings. Can result in carbon build up on piston hitting head, with damages. Good long blast at full load can clean them, but not always satisfactory. May end up with head off decoke anyway. good luck.
