paint Protection

Hey all, I have just purchased a 2011 camry touring (liquid metal) from a dealer. Upon sale the dealer offered me the option for optimised paint protection on this vehicle. She told me that with the new technology of paints on cars (no lead and being softer) that waxing or polishing is not good for protecting the paint work. I am not one to fall for these add on sales but was wondering if anyone has ideas on the best upkeep of the paint to ensure high level of protection. i have been using mcquire products on my previous car being gold class shampoo and conditioner followed by a cleaner wax every couple of months. Bear in mind i live in QLD and my car gets parked out in the whether during daylight hours. Any fedback would be much appreciated.

Hello CD. I don't know any good cleaning products because I am a lazy slob who doesn't wash the car but from experience my mum's echo has paint protection and is one year older than my old corolla and although I did was that corolla now and again with that spray stuff (forgot the name...spray it on rub it in and then rub it out...saves on water), the echo looks almost new whilst the corolla looks it's age. She has never washed the car btw...
