The oil change at every 5000 isn't necessary if you want to save money.

It's good to get it done (or do it yourself), if you want to keep your car that extra bit crispy. :)

Most modern cars these days only REQUIRE a service every 10,000/6 months and can live without the recommended oil change.

Agreed ... I only have the wagon serviced every 5K because we're looking to hold onto it long term (10 years+), so its a little investment in the engine's longevity (despite most QLD TOCA members wanting me to drop a VVTL-i in! :P ) .

They reckon that some of the Euros that have 20 or 30K intervals are stretching things, though, because while oil has come a long way, it still goes off well within that timeframe.

I run shell 95Ron or 98Ron if i'm feelin rich.. if money is a bit tight i'll go back to normal unleaded..

but generally i prefer to run something better than 91Ron.. i find the engin a bit quiter..
