I have just purchased an 02/ 2008 Presara. The engine temperature needle is sitting at exactly halfway. Is this normal please? I am used to my vehicles sitting at a lot less than this.

Perfectly normal, as is the case with all the Toyota's I've driven so far anyway. It's just the way they're designed an built. Different cars have different settings. I know the normal position for a Ford Falcon is slightly off centre, towards the colder side, whereas a Ford Focus have theirs perfectly in the middle (source: having worked at a Ford dealer).
