Landcruiser is 2008 twin turbo diesel with 233,000kms and has consistently had oil consumption problems even after a Toyota repair.

a couple of weeks ago the engine, which had been serviced the week before, seized.

The mechanics advised the oil pickup & strainer is clogged with sludge.

Expensive problem but why if I have followed the handbook service requirements ?

This is a very typical issue in modern diesels. A catch can and an EGR blanking plate can go a long way to preventing sludging/carbon in the oil symptoms.

I agree with the above guy. I'm in the process of installing a provent 200 and egr plate. Giving it clear as well (see pics below) well pics to big to post. But I've taken off the intercooler, all pipes, throttle bodies and egr system and full of sludge. Mine is a 2012 4.5 with 143km. If you want to pics pm me.

Cheers ray
