Hello,

I have a 2004 Hilux V6 ExtraCab, VZN172R which is leaking power sterling fluid.

With the engine running and turning the steering we can see the fluid running out from the Pitman joint. Was wondering if this is a common thing before we have a go at fixing it.

Watched plenty of YouTube videos but cannot see any for a Hilux, although basically the same principle for them all.

Thoughts....

Thanks Noel,

Took a look at the other post and all noted.

Funnily enough I went in to out Toyota dealer here in Cairns and they said they do not sell the repair kit I need in Australia! I asked why not and was told that it is deemed not an Australian safety standard to replace them and to buy a new one or get the old one refurbished. Quoted me around $2000 for the part so I thanked him and left the building.

He did print me off the part which actually shows the seals and they are aware that they are on sale online etc.

I have attached the diagram he gave me which could be either of the two at the bottom which shows all the seals . . . . . they just don't sell them!

If you have a bearing mob around, go and tell them what you need:cool:

Well I took it out and dropped it in to a local power steering company that's rebuilds the steering box. Had all the seals and bearings replaced a good clean etc. which cost $350 (AUD)

Refitted it and all working fine and no leaks.😉
