I'm told I should get the rocker cover gasket replaced on my 2002 Camry. I haven't asked for a quote, but I've googled this and it seems it costs around $200 to change the gasket.

Could that possibly be right?! If so, is it a job a non-professional can do?

Thanks, guys.

Is your Camry a V6 or a 4cyl ?

It's a V6, Tony. I asked the kid at Bridgestone, who said it'd cost about $400. So that's probably right then.

Might buy a horse! ☹️

Nope, not that one. Not to worry. Got me hand in me pocket already anyway...

I suspect you have the 1MZ-FE engine. If you're confident enough to do it yourself, Here are a couple of videos you can watch to see why it costs so much. Unfortunately transverse V6's aren't that easy to work on unless you have some confidence and a DIY approach. If you can't be bothered, then just have someone experienced to do it and save you all the pain.

Yeah, I'm not that confident. Used to work on my car/s when I was younger, but it's too much like hard work now. Thanks for the links, Tony.

All good mate. You're welcome.

My Aurion V6 will have a very similar approach to this when it's time to do mine. You may as well do the rocker cover gaskets and spark plugs at the same time because you'll have to dismantle half the engine all over again to do this, so do the plugs too and be done with it.

All the best and hope your car is ok

What I can suggest is to use the best quality long life plugs. I am sure that these have a life of 100,000 kms.

Don't know if the car is going to last long enough to travel that many Ks, Ashley. But I'll get good ones, anyway. :)

My mechanic charged me $280 to do the rear valve bonnet seal. You have to take apart the manifold and injection system. It stopped the oil leak which means the engine compartment is now much cleaner. The plugs are not that hard, you need the right combination of extensions for your ratchet.
