Change transmission fluid

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

i recently got a corolla 2002 with 177k on the odometer i have got a few questions:-

1- I wanna change the transmission fluid on it is it risky now to do it with this high km ?

Please note ,unfortunately I don’t have the log book to know whether the the pervious owners change it or not is still risky to change it ?

2-Does anyone know what torque for the filter and the pan and the sequence  ? As well as what kind of oil i have got Penrite Automatic Transmission Fluid FS, 4 Litre

is it the right fluid and how many liter shall i put with a replacement of the filter ?

attached pictures for the oil and filter.

Thanks in advance

Excellent idea to change the transmission fluid and also the filter. Definitely more risky to NOT change the ATF.

Looks like you have the correct preferred ATF. Suggest that you check the Penrite Lube Guide for your specific vehicle.

Expect to use most of the 4 litres when replacing doing a pan drain and filter change. Good idea to measure how much ATF is drained and replace a similar amount. I use a number of the same size plastic bottles for this purpose. You are fortunate that your transmission has a dipstick so you can easily check with the car on level ground and engine running.

No idea about the torque specifications. This video may be useful as a starting reference.

The Corolla would have to be the easiest to do this very job.

Sheriff, if you follow the instructions in the video, you can't go wrong. If I remember correctly the tightening torque for the filter and pan bolts is around 9Nm. You don't really need to torque them really. Just tighten them until they bite, then nip them up a quarter turn. They won't come loose.

Just be extra careful if you use the cork pan gasket. Don't over tighten these as you can damage the gasket. Just firm is all you need. Tighten them all up in sequence, then go around each bolt again as it will settle, just to make sure.
