HI folks,

New to this club as I recently purchased a 2003 Corolla Hatch Conquest.

I wanted to purchase new brake pads however the Bendix have DB1422 (Front Sumitomo Caliper) and DB1431 (Front Aisin Disc)

What is the difference and how do I find out the correct type for my car?

TIA

Ken.

Hi Chris,

Appreciate your feedback.

Does it mean Aisin Disc is the OEM pads?

What would use the Sumitomo Caliper brake pads?

Yes oem. Uk made have different brakes. Type your VIN into a Toyota online parts catalog

Both Aisin and Sumitomo are OEM suppliers (Akebono is another one that Toyota sometimes uses), there are several different brake setups on the Aus-delivered 9th-gens (ZZE122/ZZE123) and there isn't a clear distinction as to which model received what and why (apart from a few specific cases)

Mixture of Japan and South Africa, which can be easily distinguished by the VIN.  Jap-built will start with J, South Africa with AHT.  All Sportivos are South African, all wagons are Japan, most of the rest are Japan too but with some South African (in particular on the base model I believe).

In short, the easiest way to work out is to look at what is currently fitted to the car.  The shape is different between the two, there are also two different rotor diameters (255 and 275mm).

Hi Hiro,

I will have to take them off and check next time then.

I don't want to buy the wrong pair.

I am pretty sure there is only 1 size for the rear.

There are two different types of rear pad (and rotor) too.  Toyota went all-out with the 9th-gens to make them as confusing as possible to buy parts for.
