Engine fault sparks Toyota recall

TOYOTA is recalling almost 4000 vehicles in Australia because of a faulty engine part.

The recall is worldwide and affects Toyota's hybrid Prius and Echo models.

Toyota Australia spokesman Peter Griffin said 62 Prius vehicles and 3879 Echos in Australia were being recalled.

A faulty engine part could lead to an oil leak in the engine and cause it to stop.

Mr Griffin said there had been no reported cases of the problem in Australia and the recall was precautionary.

Owners of the affected vehicles – made between June 31, 2001, and November 9, 2001 – would be notified by mail, he said.

About 420,000 Toyota vehicles globally will be recalled because of the fault.

Yup, old news here, but confirmed - I had to take my SpEcho in for a recall manufacturers fix. Took half a day and they didn't even offer to put a supercharger in.
