i searched the forums but i didnt see this topic anywhere. if im wrong please point me the right direction coz i may have missed it -

ANYWAY,

yea since i have a Kicker subwoofer coming my way is it absolutely necessary to get a kicker monoblock amp to power it?

and does it have to be a MONOblock?

wouldnt the cheaper 2 or 4 channel amps do the same job?

and whats a capacitor do besides be really expensive and look kool in the back of your car??

As long as your amp is rated high enough power to run whatever it is you want to power. No, you do not need a kicker amp to run a kicker sub.

As for brand, I'd personally stick to one of the ones I know, Kicker, Pioneer, Alpine, Precision Power etc... I personally have as Sony...

Just don't buy the cheap shi-tty ones....

A capacitor, like any other capacitor, is a power storing device. When everything is powered up, it recieves power from the car, stores it and sends it on to your amp(s). the resulting effect is reduction of power drain on the rest of your car (ie, watching your headlights dim as you doof doof doof down the street at night)...

Hope this helps

yea i was particularly curious as 2 why we'd need a capacitor since i assumed the amp would already do that job (reduce power drain on the rest of hte car). but yea it makes sense now the way you put it.

KOOOL.

will look 4 one in Jaycar sometime soon, coz i know my cousin said they had 1 for cheap.

thankx azza!

oh yea u think jaycar amps are worth the money? or does that count as a sh!tty brand? i woulda thought that as kinda in between ****ty but dependable brand coz i saw an article in autosalon a while ago bout 1 of their amps that was big on power & low on price compared 2 its name brand equivilentz?

ok kool...

so im guessing the monoblocks are just smaller yea? since they arent powering 2 or 4 amps just the 1?

coz the cheaper 2/4 channel amps are huge

Jaycar's Response gear is very very good value for money. It's the first place I'd look if running on a tight budget.

Don't waste your money on a capacitor; you're better off getting a good Dry-cell battery like an Optima Yellowtop. With a good battery like that, you won't get any of the power loss you get from an average car battery. And when it does go flat, you can recharge it, good as new.

If this amp is purely for the sub, why would you buy a 2 or 4ch amp when you're just going to brdge the channels? It makes much more sense (and will be the better option) to get a monoblock amp for your sub.

That's the biggest waste of 11 words I've read today.

Beer, like any other beer, is an alcoholic beverage. A car, like any other car, is a mode of transport.

Just breaking it down for the bloke, mate.

Sometimes, things might be called something but do not neccessarily mean what they are called.

eg: I am an Asset Comtroller for a Government Department. All the peices of equipment I look after are called 'Non-Current Assets' but they are the ones that are there, now....current....

Sometimes, as I said, things are not what they are called....
