Hey all....

After installing the camcon in my car i set it up with the "safe tune" that is listed on the manufactureres website.... Having taken it to a dyno place yesterday, its still not tuned.... The dyno tech told me that he wasnt sure how to tune it, as in, what throttle percenetage to tune it as, as it doesnt take into account the TPS or anything else of that nature. ie. there are no seperate settings for 25% / 50% / 75% throttle etc. rather just one setting of a/f ratio for 4000rpm etc.

so my question is,

a) has anyone had theirs set up on the dyno, if so, at what throttle percentage was it set up at?

B) can anyone give me the phone number of the place that tuned theirs so i can call and ask for myself, or take it there if its not too far away.....

was hoping that it would be tuned and my car finished for the moment...pfft..... so much for planning ahead....

Generally most aftermarket ECUs are tuned at WOT. They just get the car in gear (4th is the best for 1zz) and have the foot flat from about 2k until fuel cut and seeing as our cars are DBW and not electronic throttle, WOT is pretty much the only consistent place to tune from. I am not 100% sure (i am sure some pro's could tell you *cough* rollamods) but i think most ECUs simply self adjust the a/f ratio at varying throttle states simply by measuring the intake volume and adjusting the injector duty cycle. Because the Camcon is a wacko piggyback though, i am not sure whether the A/F-throttle adjustment would come from the Camcon or the stock ECU...good luck with it :clap:

I've never looked into "how" to map a camcom.

On other devices you usually have a couple of different reference points you can map to.

Eg on an emanage you can choose quite a few for the airflow adjustment:

TPS v's RPM

Airflow v's RPM

MAP v's RPM

Then you also have the ignition map which is separate to the AF map.

Take note that you have to wire in that particular piggyback to the TPS so it knows the throttle percentage you're using and can map accurately. Same is true with SAFC etc

I'm not aware of any piggybacks that do self-adjusting for AFR, that's usually a feature of expensive standalone units like Autronic, Motec etc.

Just had a read of the camcon manual, looks pretty simple to "tune" as there's SFA you can really do with it.

for AFR tuning you have 15 points of adjustment from 1000-9000rpm, at each of those points you can make a percentage adjustment which intercepts the MAF signal to richen or lean the fuel mix. The camcon doesn't take into account the actual MAF reading or the TPS reading for this map, so it's just a broad brush and it doesn't matter if you're at part throttle or WOT.

For the cam timing, it's basically exactly the same procedure as the AFR, 15 points to set, a percentage adjustment on each, only setting say -5 will actually advance +5 at the engine due to the way the camcon tricks the ECU

In Summary, tune it for WOT, then check the rest of the range with a wideband to make sure the WOT adjustments aren't screwing up with anything down lower in the matrix. It doesn't look like the most tuning friendly device.
