Just purchased a Levin

Hello All,

Just to introduce myself. I have just recently purchased a ex-demo 2006 Corolla Levin. It's Japanese made (according to VIN) car done in Silver Leaf colour, only done 14ks, and has a factory sunroof. I'm hoping to pick it up next week. Just a couple of questions :-

1) How do I know if it has a facelift? I assume it hasn't since it is a ex-demo which is mostly likely stock. Was thinking some eyelids would be nice.

2) In terms of petrol, use I be using a higher octane petrol or would regular unleaded be sufficient for this model?

3) I'm not really that all interested in mods as this car is mainly for my wife to use on a daily basis, but what recommendations do you suggest (for general improvements not necessarily performance related) I should do to this Levin? I'm quite handy with cars so if it is simple then I don't mind doing it.

4) Any gotchas with this particular model that anyone is aware of? I assume there has been no recalls on this model and no known faults yet.

Looking forward in getting my Levin. BTW I tested drove a ex-demo 05 Sportivo and was quite keen to get that one but couldn't get the right price with the dealer, so ended up with the Levin instead.

Cheers,

How you doing and welcome!

Q1: Facelift? Assuming that it is the hatchback, model essential the front is the same as sportivo that you test drove. Pre-Facelift refers to corolla hatchbacks that were made in 2004 back.

If you're talking the sedan's i'm not sure, but i think it has something to do with the front grilles. TOCA sedan members can help you answer that ;) :)

Q2: Regular Unleaded is fine but some use the higher octane petrols for better mileage.

Q3: If your afer cosmetics, talk to the countless members that have done there rides and even take a look at the image galleries for some inpiration. :toast: Semi performance?...definitely recommend changing the existing stock panel filter to something else eg K&N, TRD, Bomex, Trust etc etc

Q4: Ask TOCA lolz

PS: From which part of Oz n town you from?

Enjoy you stay wit TOCA and i'm sure you'll gain a wealth of new info and advice! :D

Ok, forgot to mention it's a hatchback. I thought Levins only come in hatchback, wasn't aware there were sedans which I thought were only limited to the Ascent and Conquest models.

With regards to Q3 could you elaborate on what is the stock panel filter - never heard of it? Is this something like an air filter which you can change easily from within the engine bay? What about warranty considering that it's still under manufacturer's warranty - would any modifications void it?

Q4 - do you mean ask the local Toyota club? BTW I'm in Perth. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks mate. Will have a look on the web sites for a panel filter.

One more question - how do I find out what engine I have? The web site asks for a engine type when looking for a panel filter?

drive around with the car stock and no modifications and note the fuel economy you getting before you start to make changes as you may be interested to know what economy you are making.

keep the original genuine air filter if you do change to aftermarket in case you want to drop it in when you visit toyota with your car. k&n is an oil based filter if you want dry you need to look at other brands.

if you do the intake snorkel and resonator box modification try to be neat and keep the parts that you remove without hacking them to pieces. that way should you change your mind in the future you can reuse the parts because of warranty, noise or performance/economy issues.

if you wish to make the interior appear more spacious you can swap the headrests from front to back or remove the rears totally.

you may like to consider adding mesh to the front bar air dam to prevent bugs sticking to the radiator or rocks damaging it.

apart from that i cannot think of other mods you would do to levin without having to spend significant money on it.

congrats on the purchase!

1. 06 model is facelift.

2. you can use any octane fuel on the levin. but by using 95,98 octane you will get a smooter drive and better economy

3. no issues or call backs on the levins that i know of

other general improvements/mods that do not cost much but your time remove drivers side sun visor warning sticker, change center console lights, paint things up such as inside head lamps, brake calipers, engine cover.
