Hello,

Saw this in the Sydney Morning Herald.

It appears the Toyota Corolla airbag is a hot item for single-component car theft (Column 8, Tuesday). Last Saturday night, thieves used a jack to rip the door off Chris Peak's Corolla and steal the airbag. When he rang the police he was told there had been numerous reports of stolen Corolla airbags in the inner west while a smash repairer mentioned that a Kings Cross car rental firm had eight Corolla airbags stolen last weekend alone. Meanwhile, Sarah from St Marys says her car (not a Corolla) was broken into at Seven Hills railway station and the only part stolen was the ashtray.

What the? Looks like soon we'll not only need detachable face plates for our stereo systems but detachable steering wheels as well. Shucks...what is this world coming to? :(

My sister's car had the air bags stolen - they do a professional job and disconnect everything at the right place without breaking anything. Cops came around fingerprinted the car and said most likely panel beater's buddies.
