  1. AU or US, give or take 5% isnt much to worry about. Normally in Adelaide papers, we use aussie dollars :P

Y= Yen in the prices ive quoted from Japan obviously...

Above grabs are from Carsguide.com.au as stated by mr2pod above.

I would love for that to be the simple case, but unfortunately we get ripped off! In America you can buy a new V6 Camry for US$26,600, which is a fair difference to our Aurion start price of AU$36,000. Hence my question.

  2. A full underbody cover is targeting about 15% of the drag, but you will in no way eliminate it. I'd expect you would reduce it to around 10% if done correctly. Once you add mechanical losses, you may have saved 3 - 4% of the total constant speed losses. You will have also added around 1 - 2% of mass, which you have to accelerate and brake all day every day. It also means more difficulty servicing and repairing.

So unless you only drive at 100km/h 95% of the time, I suggest you won't be a winner.

  3. Just released in newspapers this morning in Adelaide, the '86's starting RRP AU$32,000...

Any word where they got the price? All I've found so far was saying that the AE86 was the same as an average uni graduate (here). They then made the calculation that the current Japanese graduate average start wage is 2.5 million yen, or about US$32,000.

I gather the green panels are standard, and the yellows are available as options.

Lucky I can read some Japanese ...

Some differences between the GT-APEX and GTV include:

    UV cut glass

    Rear spoiler (GTV option)

    Climate control

    Bucket seats (GT-APEX option only)

  5. The black vehicle in these pictures is a real modded 86 it's not photoshoped.. It belongs to a tuning house called Japanese parts & performance. As highlighted a few times now many tuning houses have their hands on the vehicle already and are producing a host of performance parts so you can basically buy your 86 out of the dealership and straight to them.

The 86 / BRZ has the rear brake calipers mounted behind the rear axle centreline (your attachment shows them front mounted on both axles):

    Toyota-GT_86_2013_photo_07.jpg

The shadows through the wheels make no sense in their surroundings.

The shadows and reflections are identical front and rear.

No GOOD brake design has identically sized front an rear brake rotors (unless running a racing brake pedal with a bias bar). When braking, the front brakes will do the majority of work. If one end is not working at the same capacity, you're wasting horsepower.

I'm sure the exact look is achievable, with this being a mockup.

  6. Oh yeah 86 has Potential! look at the size of the damn brakes on this thing!! with the weight of the car it would stop hard on it's nose all day every day probably until it's severed your head right off lol

Yes, but this is not my style. We'll see how photoshop compares to real-world mods. Plus, same size front and rear rotors will never be seen with a good design.

  7. To get 6th gear under 100km/h, you will need the right load conditions. A flat road, neutral winds and no towing. It is also sensitive to driving style (when I drove it would change at 96, but for someone else on the same road it changed at 104).

Maybe the car was designed to operate on an autobahn!?

  8. I recieved my quote for 90,000km service including the spark plug replacement, the quote does not have a charge for Plenum Chamber gasket. Does that mean at Toyota Dealerships they don't take off the Chamber to get to the rear plugs or they do it but don't need to replace gasket?

Does anyone know the answer to the above question?

It means the repair manual requires it, but dealers aren't replacing non-reusable gaskets ...

  9. VIN JT7 = ... built in Japan. (don't quote me on it though)

Most, if not all corolla's to come to Australia were and are Japanese built. However, I think in recent years they are made in Thailand for the Aussie market. (but again not 100% sure)

A VIN starting with JT means built in Japan, MR is Thailand and Australia is 6T.

The current Corolla ZRE150 series is all Japan built. Nothing from Thailand ... yet

  10. The cause is something other than those mentioned above.

I'll let you know when the dealers have received information (a Technical Newsflash) on how to fix it.

Until then, you'll find that using wide open throttle will work for you when you experience the problem (take your foot off once the engine is above cranking RPM).

  11. I have a little mascot sitting right on top of it

Hahaha! I hope you stay safe without it!

If I put anything up there, it would be constantly flying around the car every time I accelerate or brake. Last week I had a parking ticket (from a machine, not a fine) which I got to fly from the front left speaker and land on the centre of my diary on the passenger seat. I even had to back off a little so it wouldn't overshoot.

The sensor is biased to the up direction, so if you drive under a bridge, despite a lot of surrounding light, the lights will almost always come on.

You'll have to look up next time, to see the light levels. If the main intensity is from the front, the light could play with the sensor, like it can on a digital camera.
