  1. You could also try taking a look at eonon. Chinese brand but at least it has a brand, unlike most generic units. I was very close to purchasing the G2216 but changed my mind at the last minute to save cash. http://www.eonon.com/Car-GPS/2-Din-Car-GPS-DVD/G2216.html It's cheaper than most generic units, u can get a custom faceplate and wire harness to fit into the aurion from their site as well.
  2. Was driving behind an Aurion S2 and an Audi A6 yesterday. Anyone noticed how similar their tail lights are? Aurion Prodigy S2 Audi A6 Audi A6 Estate
  3. I always thought that the 380 had a nice look from behind since I saw it at the mitsubishi dealer back in 06. Otherwise, from the front it just looks like a magna. 380VRXs do look good but I see lots of confusing variations in different models. A pity that they discontinued it though, I heard that it's quite a nice car to drive.
  4. Yea.. check out the Kia Optima Again, unfortunately it's a Kia.
  5. If you mean footwell lighting, there's a guide for aurions posted here: IMO, it isn't very clear but once you try it yourself, do a little figuring out and you'll understand. I followed that guide to get my LED footwell lights installed, working in the same way as the dome light does.
  6. Absolutely nothing wrong. 1. You're not trying to mislead others into thinking that your car is something that it's not 2. Your car isn't plastered with badges (i hope) 3. Do what you want. It's your car!
  7. I agree. When I first stuck it on, the idea was to improve the aesthetics, not miscommunicate to others that it's a TRD vehicle. Apparently, the latter is happening.
  8. Cool, we're on the same page then. But honestly, I wasn't anywhere close to taking a dig (or stab) at you.
  9. PM me if it ever materializes. Hey there BumBuddy, Guess who ;)
  10. Before I start, I expect to cop some flak from protective TRD owners but hey, I'm just trying to share an experience that I thought would be interesting and or something with that effect When I first bought my car, the tailgate Aurion badge was poorly stuck on, it was obviously crooked and the spacings were wrong. I had to do something about it. I decided to be a wiseass and thought that since I'm going to pull it off and fix it, I might as well improve it :D So, I went to the nearest toyota dealer (which is conveniently a 5mins drive away) and got the TRD Aurion 'TRD' badge for 30bucks. I put the TRD badge on the left side and moved the existing Aurion logo to the right. Picture the TRD Aurion tailgate with the non-TRD 'Aurion' badge. By the way, there is a BIG, OBVIOUS difference between the TRD and non-TRD 'Aurion' badges. Today, I went to the crash repair to get a quote for fixing the paint on my rear bumper. It was one of those large shops with at least 30 cars parked inside and around it. The paint touchup guy was probably in his early 50s, obviously an experienced guy. To my surprise, when he was writing the quote, for vehicle make, he wrote TRD Aurion. Of course, I quickly corrected him. I would expect that the motoring community be able to differentiate between TRD and non-TRD Aurions. Hmmm. P.S. I would have loved to get a TRD Aurion, just that there weren't any for sale in WA during the period I was shopping. Another major consideration was the cost of premium fuel with constantly rising fuel prices.
  11. The 2012 Hyundai i30 reminds me of a mazda hatchback. Anyway, the i40, i45 and electra look pretty damn good. i30 is according to ads the cheapest car to run. Too bad that they're hyundai, otherwise I definitely would have gone i45. The koreans are learning fast on multiple fronts. Design, quality and brand image. I'm guessing that perhaps within the next 3-5 years, they'll be giving toyota and honda a run for their money. But at least for now, I'll stick with my aurion.
  12. Thanks! Would love to crack open the assembly and put the curve in the middle but I'm worried that I don't seal it properly and i end up with condensation inside. Besides, I'll need to drill a hole in the assembly for the power cord. I'm just gonna stick on the headlight assembly surrounds, in the gap between the bumper and the assembly. There's a considerable gap and the smd strip that I got are supposedly only 5mm wide. I'll upload the other concepts later tonight but that's the best so far IMO.
  13. And so, my HID's just died. After 5 days. Ballast blew and took out a fuse. Finito. Just like TRD. I expect the ebay seller to replace it for free But let's not dwell on HIDs, DJKOR does have a point that the DRLs look tacked on. It's just whether you mind or not. Honestly, I don't mind them but in the spirit of improvement, I've ordered 2 smd strips to try something like this: I've got a few concepts on my desktop that I could upload if anyone's interested. Perhaps the amber lights could be placed on the bottom strip (horizontal with the ground) ? Then, there's always that DJKOR tacky factor to consider :P Anyway, which is that 3 chip SMD strip that you're talking about? Can't seem to find them on ebay. Hah. Someone suggested that I do that with SMD strips. No doubts that I said no.
  14. okay, now who was the jack**s who started the HIDs? Edit: whoops, sorry 450HP :P Screw HIDs. Just get this: http://www.butlergroup.ie/products-page/instrumentation/security-surveillance/security-cameras/flir-pathfinder-ir More info: https://www.toyota-global.com/innovation/safety_technology_quality/safety_technology/technology_file/active/night_view.html So back to my turn indicator mod, what do you guys think about ADDING SMD strips beside the existing filament globe? New Mod Idea: Have you guys seen the Audi A8 turn indicators? Saw 'em on the way home today. One Word; EPIC.
  15. Yea there definitely is some glare at the top, a little rectangular bit at the top of the beam where you'll notice a dim patch. However, my point is not that there isn't any glare. It's that the glare isn't significant enough as to affect other road users ... at least in my opinion Besides, there's no point arguing with you. You're running 8000k HIDs as well... presumably in your low beams? If you haven't changed your low beam setup, you would be seeing a very similar diffusion pattern as the rest of us. People strive to maintain high self-esteem through processes of social comparison, which basically means that our perception is biased that we're superior and the rest are inferior. It would be pointless for you to argue against your identity group. Hence, I believe that you do have noble intentions in what you're saying. Pictures would reinforce/counter whichever side of the fence that you (the reader) are sitting on :P Well said. Only way out of this is to get a presara, or a merc (or better still, AMG) But thanks for your input, I really do appreciate your knowledge. Best of luck with whatever that 'whoop whoop' is!
  16. Cheers dude, but not taking any sides here. Just stating my opinion B) 2 days!? are you repainting the entire front end?
  17. Too much talk and technicality, no action. I'll put some photos up of my low beams very soon. There's a tiny bit of scatter but in all honesty, I find that it doesn't affect other road users in anyway. edit: By the way, the scatter in the 2nd picture is horrible. Aurion projectors do a far better job. The pictures will speak for themselves :P
  18. Another possible modification could be to leave the existing turn indicator globe in place but attach the SMD strip beside it, and join it in parallel with the filament glove. I'll probably never do it though. Too much trouble and after reading the rather disturbing contents of the above posts, bleh :( 6000k HIDs should be coming in within a week or 2. Shouldn't be much of a problem driving with my 8000ks as it doesn't stand out that much due to the projectors. Besides, I hardly ever drive at night.
  19. As long as they are not stock, they're illegal. With regards to whether you'll get pulled over and defected, it's just your luck. From what I've heard, some guys with super blue low beams have been driving around for years without getting defected while others with white HIDs get defected. Installation is very simple but you have to be prepared that there's some chance of getting pulled over one unfortunate night.
  20. I'm confused.. I thought that only S1 aurions all have the same tail lights? For S2 aurion, sportivo models have clear tail lights. Non-sportivos have tinted tail lights.
  21. The E1 mark on the lens shows that it is an ADR 6/00 approved item: The "authorities" could put it into the same basket as hyper blue headlamps (needs ADR 51/00 approval) or HID kits on a car without auto-levelling lamps and headlamp washers (requires ADR 46/00 approval). Getting a LED globe of the same type as the original shouldn't be a problem. You should be aware that changing how the reflector and lens work together, with your mod, could impact on an insurance claim ... Sounds reasonable. Thanks dude. I've learnt something today :P Speaking of which, I ordered 8000k HIDs instead of the intended 6000k (sigh, me and my careless mistakes). A little too blue for my comfort. I hope that the cops don't think otherwise... Sure. I got them from autobacs japan http://www.autobacs.com/index.html I don't know how you're going to import it but it's there for you. They'll make good number plate lights alright but I would recommend the standard 5smd china ones. Much cheaper. The reason that higher quality LEDs are used in the parker lights is because the parker lights are rather difficult to access. Since SMDs are very sensitive to voltage changes and tend to blow easily, having to replace blown parkers every 2 months is going to be a major pain in the a**. However, number plate lights are alot easier to access. Personally, I use standard 5SMD T10s all around my car, with the exception of the parker lights. Much more economical. I've been using the china ones for more than a month and still going strong. Yet to blow on me http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Car-5-SMD-LED-White-T10-W5W-194-Wedge-Light-Bulbs-12V-/180687131643?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a11cad3fb#ht_3096wt_1139 1.34AUD as opposed to 20bucks ;)
  22. Good idea. I was thinking that they might look a little ugly with all the markings on the back... but then again it needs to be bright enough Hahaha yes actually I did. Sorry to disappoint you ;) You reckon? Say if I use 5050SMD strips with appropriate load resistors to prevent hyperflashing? I have a set of LED DRLs with 5050SMDs and IMO the visible brightness of the turn indicators and the LEDs are quite similar. Of course, it's not taking into consideration the sensitivity of the human eye to different wavelengths etc... but are you certain that it would be unroadworthy?
  23. Alright so I've got this idea to mod the turn indicator. Currently the turn indicator looks like this: I was thinking that it could be possible to open the mirror assembly, remove the filament globe and replace it with an amber smd strip like this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Flexible-Amber-15-LED-SMD-Waterproof-Car-Light-Strip-SE-/200597978363?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb4923cfb#ht_2712wt_905 So that it would look like this: Edit: Forgot to mention, load resistors may be required to prevent hyperflashing What do you guys think? Would it be difficult to open the side mirrors without damaging the electrical components that control the direction of the mirrors? A little off topic here, I got a set of 1 smd LED T10s from japan for around 20bucks. Of similar brightness to the philips ultinon LEDs. Just installed them in the parkers. Let's see how long they last.
