  1. Hi ranid, welcome to the forum , you best bet is have a look on the prado point web site there is heaps of information regarding injectors and advice replacing injectors, prado point forum is a must for any prado owner , another web site to check out is 4wd action forum, there could be info on there too, there is a lot of prado owners on that site and hilux owners too, hope this helps, I used to be 120 prado owner too,but mine was 2005 v6 petrol auto, so you have any other problem besides the engine I might beable to help you mate :) .
  2. What I would do mate is get the service advisor to take the car for a drive and they should be able to replicate the noise, especialy when turning a corner or exiting around about, if not I would be trying another dealer, when mine had the same problem my dealer knew of the problem, they changed the intermediate shaft and fixed it for me know worries. I had a test drive of a 2012 kxr awd recently and I couldnt feel a knock, but this kluger only had 15000kms on it so its probaly too soon to have problem, but it is a common problem with later klugers to have the intermediate shafts to be replaced, because of the knock, so they still havent rectified the problem . Lets us know how you get on mate :)
  3. Hi ace, welcome to the forum mate, I love the tundras too, I wish they would sell them here instead of having to specialy importing them, they look heaps better than the new 70 series duel cabs and they would be way more comfortable and powerfull, I reckon if they put the twin turbo diesel thats in the 200 series in the tundra they would sell like hot cakes in australia. anyway mate good luck saving for the tundra mate.
  4. I owned a 4 litre prado, same engine as the hilux, which I thought wasnt too bad on fuel and offered great performance, I think if you towing and carrying heavy loads yes the diesel is slightly better on fuel but I dont think its that much better, most people dont relise is diesels cost more to service and maintain and if you have got to replace injectors or fuel pumps be prepaired to spend up big, the v6 petrol on the other hand there isnt much to go wrong, the 4litre v6 is a absolute perler of a engine. Toyota know how to build great v6 engines.
  5. Hi peter welcome to the forum mate, the 80 series are a great old truck, another great forum to have a look on is the 4wd action web site there are heaps of info on the 80 series and can offer advice on any question you might have.
  6. I think mate the taller centre caps are off a live front end model landcruiser and the smaller centre caps are off a IFS model landcruiser, the centre caps should be the same front and back, dont quote me on this but im pretty sure. Only the base model landcruiser with the barn style doors had manuel hubs, all other grades had auto hubs.
  7. Hi tomee, I think mate the v6 rav4 uses the same filter wrench socket as my kluger ,which has the same engine 2grfe, the filter socket is 65mm in diameter and mine is the geniune toyota filter socket , Iam pretty sure all socket filter wrenches are 65mm in diameter, I dont know if this is much use to you ,but only way ask around a few automotive places, they point you in right direction.
  8. This is news to me mate, I dont remember hearing about all reading about it, what I would do mate is check your self with the service at toyota and comfirm that it is a common problem, it sounds like your mechanic is spinning you a yarn, I might be wrong, have a read through some of the threads on this forum on the 80000km service, and see if you havent already and see if somone has heard the same thing.
  9. I had a similur thing happen to me when I had my prado ,only had it a week and some fwit decided to key up the whole side of the car, which was done in broad daylight in the front of a mates house while we were having a barby, I went to go and get some beers a noticed the damage, I went off my nut, the whole street would of heard me , if I ever caught the cu#t who did that to my car I would snap there fingers off and shove them up there a$%^ and then kick them in the nuts. It cost me $1600 to fix, I had to get the whole side resprayed.
  10. Nice mate.now iam really jealousLOL :D The roo system sounds awesome, I remember watching some 4wdaction dvds, with glen haddens 200 series with roo system installed, this thing would the most toughest bloke blush,I remembering him towing a large camper trailer up a slippery steep slope and it did it with ease, the torque of the v8 and the amazing traction control, these things are unstoppable the v6 I had in the prado and in the kluger are great but nothing as good as the monster in the cruiser, theres no substitute for a V8. the 200 series are a amazing car, I always wanted a landcruiser but hopefully oneday I have one fingers crossed. Hopfully everything goes well for you and you enjoy the landcruider mate. I would love to see some photos when she all kitted out.
  11. Welcome to the club mate, I so jealous the 200 series landcruisers are beutifull cars, I wish I could afford one, I love a v8 twin turbo diesel, ohwell oneday, which engine did you get, petrol or diesel, I would have both, anyway welcome.
  12. I wouldnt mind knowing how you get on when you bring up the problem when you get your kluger serviced, I think its a toyota thing, I remember reading the same problem with guys having similar issues on prado point with the prado autos doing the same thing, I think they got the ecu reflashed or somthing and it improved the shift quality, I sort of remember my old prado doing the same as what the kluger is doing. When accelerating up to 100 or overtaking the engine and gearbox are great the gears shift quickly and smoothly and offer strong performance, only when driving slowly around town , turning or accelerating gently around a corner, that the gearbox is indecisive.
  13. Hi rumz, mine does the same thing when turning the corner or just accelerating lightly,to its like the gear box doesnt seem to know to hold a gear or change down, there seems to be a flat spot then it makes up its mind. I have been told that these gear box have a memory on the way you drive and have to learn how you drive,to a point I probadly agree , most of the time I only drive gentle back and forwards to work, so the gearbox thinks thats the way I drive, but when I am away I open her up and driving in the big city I accelerate pretty hard, after that the gearbox seems to shift better, but not perfect though I wish the shift quality was as good as the ZF auto transmission thats in our territory. The next service on mine iam going to ask the service advisor and see what can be done to fix the problem.
  14. Cheers for that ray and welcome to the forum mate,I actually remember reading that light compairson, it was done by australian 4wd action magazine, which I used to buy, when I owned my number of 4wds, I love reading there articles and value there oppinion, they go to great depths testing products for there articles,I have bought a couple of products based on there tests, that was a great test for lights it gives people a choice for everyones budget and needs, they also list the pros and cons,of each type of light.
  15. Welcome to the forum, nice hilux, I used to own the same model, very capable utes and a lot of fun.
  16. Im 32,33 in august, im a spay painter and farmer, I had a few different jobs, from roof tiling to tractor driving, you could say jack of all trades, been from the land, I have a love of mechanical things and love anything car relateted.
  17. Hi barney,I also seen a few you tube videos of klugers driving in sand and on dunes, I read there pretty capable in sand and also read there comments and they said they turned the traction control off and lowered the tire pressure, im also pretty sure they were awd klugers too. I personally probadly wouldnt tackle frasier island in a kluger, I heard of a lot of stories of guys getting stuck and losing the 4wds in the tide, but hopefully some one on this forum has taken there kluger to frasier island.
  18. Welcome to the forum mate, I would love to see some photos mate, I have always had a bit of a soft spot hiluxes and you dont see those old ones around any more,so keep up the good work.
  19. 270000kms is a lot kms,so if you were going to keep the car a few years, I probadly get somthing with less kms, but if you were only going to keep the car a couple years you should be ok, because you have 2 years warranty, so anything goes wrong it will get fixed under warranty, but if you were intending on keeping it past the warranty, I would give it a miss, depending on your budget, there a few klugers that I have seen with halve the kms on them for less than $10000 more, which would be a better option, because if you going to keep somthing with high kms for a few years, you could be up for a transmission or engine rebuild, which could cost you more if you bought somthing with less kms, I dont mean to rain on your parade but its worth thinking about, dont get me wrong these engines and gearboxes probadly give 400000kms of trouble free services, but that a big gamble to take
  20. Hi morts, welcome to the forum ,the is a metal compliance plate on the bottom of the b pillar on the drivers side, if thats missing that would send alarm bells ringing for me, but you have probadly checked that it wasnt stolen before you bought it, the one on the passanger side is a black sticker, im not sure if the any other vin or chassis numbers anywhere else on the car.
  21. Congratulations on your purchase of new kluger,I find 2wd is adequate most of the time and the traction control does a pretty good job of putting 201kw on ground, Im not sure how much fuel savings beetween the 2wd and Awd, but you be happy with economy of the 3.5v6. I like your oppinion on your new kluger when you get it against your old one, a bit of a comparison, any way mate good luck with it, and hopefully you wont have wait to long.
  22. Welcome to the forum mate, im pretty they didnt change anything on the kluger beetween 2007 to 2010, only with late 2010 upgrade model. I had the same problem when buying my kluger 12 months ago, there a lot of overpriced ones out the and there also some bargins, what I seen on the net with second hand klugers the private sellers and big metoplitan dealerships seem to be the best value for money, but there is a lot of dreamers out there too,If it was me I would buy mine at toyota dealership with warranty or extended warranty, what I have found its a lucky dip with buying one in good nick from any dealership as with private sellers ,they might have good order kluger in immaculate condition and next week they get another one on the lot in rough condition for the same price, its the luck of the draw, I guess most of these were bought for families with kids, any one who has kids will tell there not the kindest on cars, but that doesnt mean there hasnt been ones out there that have been babied, what I would look for if I was buying a used kluger is make sure all the services have been done, the engines dont like missed services, there has been the odd case of the engines seizing up due to sludge, but only from neglect, there pretty reliable and all check all the accesories work and check the steering on the test drive, that theres no clunk when turning , mostly left, this is caused by the intermediate shaft, the problem was that the shaft didnt have enough grease in it when manufatured and dried out, another thing to look for is the dash rattling, due to the clips breaking or the felt wearing of the clips, so when test driving do it in the morning, thats when the dash will rattle the most, als listen out for a whine when travelling beetween 50 to 70kmh, you check this out on this forum, there is a thread on this problem and the fixes, but in general the kluger is a reliable car that is a pleasure to drive and own, theres probadly things that I have missed but if you have any question or problems dont hesitate to post them on here , there is a lot of great bunch of guys on this forum with a lot of knowledge and are only too happy to help, let us know how you get on, hope to chat with you on the forum later mate.
  23. Hi ian, welcome to the forum mate,I owned many makes in the last 17 years and toyotas I have found to be the most reliable and had the best run out of the makes, good servicing is the key to long life, catch later mate, might even catch you over on the kluger forum.
  24. Cheers wilsact,I remember seeing that comparo on a ACA,the price difference beetween premium and regular unleaded ia asbosolutly ridiculous, especialy 98, I cant understand why there is such a huge gap in price, the gap seems to got larger in the last couple of years, I would like to know why?. I dont personally like e10 fuels, but in the owners manuel it sais the kluger is e10 compatible, so I guess its what ever works for you.
  25. Hi derek, welcome to the forum mate, the 80 series are a great old truck, great for touring four wheeldriving, hope the trip goes great for you mate.
