  1. Sounds to me to be the fuel pump, our 1994 hiace had similar symptons, it would stutter and *****, the main problem was there was a lag in power when excellerating when you put your foot down, similar to turbo lag, it got worse as time went on, then it aventualy just stoped,If it is the fuel pump, dont make the same mistake as we did and put a cheap after market one in,the replacment pump only lasted 12 months and it was stuffed, but before I would get the fuel pump checked I would put a new fuel filter in and see if it improves, that might be all it is. The 2.4 im pretty sure has a timing chain, so you dont have change any timing belts, the timing chains pretty much last the life of the engine, in general the 2.4,22r is a pretty bullet proof engine, so its not uncommon for them to reach 400000kms and never had any major engine work, your sounds to be in good nick.so it should only need a bit of TLC and it will run for good while yet.
  2. Ithink the 86 looks great, but would like somthing with a bit more muscle,I quess im a bit of a petrol head, but its a pity toyota dont bring somthing to match the GTR skyline, somthing with a big v6 with twin turbos ,maybe bring back the supra, but I guess they know the market more than me.
  3. The fuel economy of the kluger would make diesel owner green with envy, just returned from a week away in newcastle and the coast and the kluger averaged 9.8 L100 to nelsons bay from dubbo cruising along at 100kmh,double demerit points so taking niceand easy, then on the way home filled up at maitland with caltex vortex and averaged 8.4 L 100 cruising along at 115 to 120 kmh with a few full trottle overtaking moves, so very happy with the economy over the whole trip, this is the first time I have used caltex vortex, but very impressed with the economy with vortex , but the probadly still some ultimate still in the tank, so its a bit hard to tell if I was better economy with vortex, I hadnt used caltex fuels for years, the last time was when I had our SS commodore, which always seemed to peform pretty well on the vortex, but like a couple of members said my kluger seems to run better on BP ULTIMATE,so I probadly stick it and I also agree at least the engine running clean healthy.
  4. I actually like the look of it, I can sort of make out the grille under the black cover and it looks good, the same with the back, the new kluger seems bigger than curent model, I be curiours to look at the interiour, I quess they start releasing more photos and then we can have a look at the interior and clearer picture of the car.
  5. I have to admit freddy sounds good, but the kluger to beutifull to be called freddy lol :P , I actually remember the ad for the GEN2 kluger with the little pug dog and I think it was called freddy, someone probadly beable to correct me on that, but I used to love that ad they had the old lampoons vacation theme in the background . I know its not very original or exciting, but I called my kluger klugie and my old prado pradie, our territory is called terry, original names huh lol, most of my cars have had names and have been called female names, there probadly only couple that were not named , only my favourite cars that I have had a bond with got named.
  6. Im glad mate they worked somthing out for you, I quess its a honest mistake and they have taken responsibility for ,which I admirer there honesty, that shows there customer loyality, I wouldnt like to be the salesman though, I bet they got there butt kicked, but hopefully now mate you can get the outcome you were after, keep us posted.
  7. Hi whishy, to be honest mate, and please dont take this the wrongway but to tow 2500kg would be a big enough strugle in a old hj75, let alone 3500kg, they simply havent got the power or torque, I towed with the later 75 series with 4.2 diesel with approx 2500kg and they really strugled on hills and would hate towing a big boat on the sand, let alone a 25 year old landcruiser. The only way is maybe a v8 engine and someone who can enginear comply your vehicle to increase your gvm and towing capacity. Sorry probadly not much help, hopefully someone on this forum can point you in the right direction.
  8. I think 46 psi a bit extreme for a passanger car like the kluger, it would make the right to bumpy and choppy and the handling and steering to floaty, I think 40 psi the best pressure for ride, fuel economy, handling and tyre wear, but 36psi should be ok, what I would do is keep a eye on the outside shoulders on the tyre for uneven wear, if there starting to wear a bit more on the outside shoulder a bit quicker than the rest of the tyre, then pump them up to 40psi and you shouldnt have any dramas.
  9. Im also curious how did you go with the dealer regarding this issue, as a couple of members said it might be worth a look at the contract, if you havent allready, and see what the idenfication numbers on the contract are the same as the ones on the car and see if the model is a GSU45R,before getting legal advice and contacting fair trading, hopefully mate they come to the party and give you the refund difference or come to some other arrangment. Keeps us posted.
  10. personally mate I would stick with the exended factory factory warranty, you never know when you will need it ,after all you have paid for it , and I would also stick with toyota servicing, you might save your self a little bit of money and I know some places like ultra tune etc say they do log book servicing that doesnt void your warranty, but I would still stick with toyota servicing, at least you know they cant come back at you and say your warranty is voided because your car hasnt been serviced by toyota, if you need a warranty claim you have that piece of mind, so I think the exended warranty is a good thing and worth sticking with.
  11. Hi mate welcome to the forum, mate what I would do first is go and approach the dealer with the contract or better still find the salesman that sold you the kluger and see what there got to say about the issue, if the salesman said it was awd and its only 2wd, I think you got some legal right, you should be intilted some sort of refund because theres 4 or 5 thousand dollar difference beetween the two, especialy if it states on the contract awd, the salesman should beable to tell the difference between the two, if its awd there is a little badge below the v6 vvti badge saying awd,and inside the theres a DAC button near the centre consol, so the salesman at fault, not you, if the sales people cant tell the difference between the two ,they should be selling them fullstop.
  12. In 2013 I probadly keep the kluger, which isnt a bad thing, the kluger is probadly the one of the most practicle cars I have owned, it has plenty of power and space and comfort, it offers pretty good fuel economy for a v6 2 ton wagon and only has 91000kms on it so she just run in,the kluger has been reliable, so at this stage I keep her a bit longer, maybe next year I upgrade back to another prado, which I would like, but would be more than happy with another kluger.
  13. Ithink the main reason the dropped the v6 is , most people want v6 power will buy a kluger a and most of the rav4 buyers opt for the 4 cylinder model over the v6, which is a big shame, the v6 is a perler of a engine and pushing a small compact suv, goes like cork out of a bottle and in my oppinion the pick out of the engines, the new model dropping the v6 probadly turns me off the new model, I guess If I want v6 grunt I have to stick with kluger.
  14. Gday mate, I use to own a 1998 hilux aswell and it never missed a beat, mine had the 5L diesel, not overly powerfull, but reliable and pretty toquey down low, sometimes I wish I had kept the old girl. This forum is a great place to start with any questions regarding the hilux, there is a few members with hiluxes on here and some with some mechanical knowledge, also the 4wd action web site another great place for information, there heaps of information on hiluxes and mods, that members have done to travel around this great country.
  15. Hi ray, welcome to the kluger family, probadly chat to you on the kluger forum, time to time.

    Poor reception

Hi mate, I think most of the problem could be due to the radio antenna be in the rear quarter panel window, there never as good as external aerial, thats my oppinion, if you live local to the radio station there not to bad, but if you live a little distance from the transmitter they have poor reception, , my radio reception isnt to bad on fm, but the am reception isnt that great, it has a bit of static every so often when going around a corner and thats in a major city right where the station broadcasted, the rear glass antennas might look good but offer lousy receiption.
  17. Hi loon ,Yeah mate your right, The water is coming from the rear ac drainage tube, when I first saw water coming out of mine for the first time ,I investigated and it was coming from the drain tube for the rear ac.
  18. Good to hear that your loving your kluger mate and welcome to the forum, would only be too happy to help you with any questions you have or share ideas mate, look forward to chatting lately.
  19. I actually mind the interior, but the exterior,im not to keen on, but I guess I get used to it, and doesnt look like the new rav4 going to get the v6 any more, which is a shame, that 200 killer wasps was a hoot, but someone out there might beable to comfirm that.
  20. Welcome to the club mate, the wait will be worth it, the great cars to drive and im sure you love it, look to chatting with you on the kluger forum later mate.
  21. I probadly say its you intermediate shaft, thats what my kluger was doing before I replaced the shaft, the problem with the shaft is that they didnt put enough grease in them when manufactered,it is a pretty common problem with the kluger, I have also heard of the problem inthe aurion aswell, im not sure if they can regrease them, I dont know, but its worth a ask, I guess.
  22. HI JOHN, when I had my prado, I upgraded the globes in my headlights with IPF XEON H1bulbs, which improved low beam performance and better high beam range, I didnt have to change my factory harness, they just plug straigt in,some of the globes you may have to upgrade the factory wireing looms, there is fairly big range of different types of globes in the IPF range, from halogen to xeon, there not cheap, Icant quiet remember how much they worth ,but are worth it,so hopefully there one to suite the kluger or you needs, if not you can always get a good set of driving lights.
  23. My kluger just clocked over 90000kms and she still running like clock work, no problems yet and drives as good the day I got her almost a year ago, she ready for her 90000kms service, which shouldnt be too bad price wise.

    Custom Prado

That looks fantastic, that looks better than I exspected, I would also like to know where you got the parts for your prado,im thinking of upgrading in the next couple of years back into another prado, and I like the lights and the grille on yours.
  25. Cheers mate, I was wondering when they were posting out the letters for the recall notice, now all I have to do is wait for the letter and book my car in and get it checked.
