  1. Yes SirNed, I have the Toyota head unit with reversing camera, the problem with the front camera I tried from Jaycar was mounting it in a decent position, it doesn't really give you a good view out to the sides for nose in angle parking. Just couldn't find a good spot for it to view the whole front spoiler or enough to keep me from hitting anthing low (gutters, driveways, concrete barrier, speed bumps etc). The lip kit I got is actually lower/fatter towards the outside and is thing in the middle underneath.

Back in my home country, there's a company selling a replica of the JDM Toyota first-gen front camera as a universal fit item (it's a two-way type, similar to the Fujitsu-ten Eclipse front cam.), connected to a control box that supports two or four cameras (Front, rear & sides.). This mod is popular on JDM Toyota minivans back home that have the original navi sytem, but didn't have the factory option front cam.

After a little more Googling, looks like it's replaced with a wide view front cam though (Looks like a re-purposed rear cam.). This might be useful,as it has an adjustable bracket.

  2. The dealer had a black Sportivo (Saw papers on the dash, implying that the vehicle was sold, so didn't get to sit inside it.) on display while I was participating in the Camry Expo on Monday. In a dark color and in person, it doesn't look as bad as the photos I've seen. If I'm in the market for an Aurion though, I'd probably get the Presara with Ivory interior.

btw, is it just me, or did Toyota remove the power folding mirror feature from the 2012 Aurion Presara? Can't make out the power fold button on the mirror switch panel in the photo below.

  3. Toyota also released the all new Lexus ES at the New York International Auto Show. It's looks a lot sleeker than the previous model. Also making its debut is a hybrid variant (Not a V6 Hybrid like the RX450h though.). One thing interesting to note is that Toyota Australia is interested in reintroducing the ES, after confirmation of a RHD version. Would be nice to see it down under again (Liked the 2ES & 3ES, the latter which was LHD only.).

When the Toyota Camry gets overhauled, like it did this year, you know it's not long before its corporate sister, the Lexus ES, gets revisited as well. And Lexus has done exactly that this afternoon at the New York Auto Show, with the new model doing what the ES does best: Surprise no one.

As expected, the biggest news is the announcement of a hybrid ES, a move that should be the final nail in the coffin of the slow-selling HS 250h. This new hybrid is essentially the Camry hybrid in a nicer package, powered by the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder fitted with the ubiquitous Toyota hybrid system. As it does in the hybrid GS, Lexus will offer a sport drive mode, as well as an EV mode. Lexus estimates that the ES hybrid will have 40-mile-per-gallon combined fuel economy, matching that of the Camry Hybrid XLE (a number that presumably will give it best-in-class bragging rights).

  4. The second generation Avalon (Which was not sold here.), was also exported to Japan as the Pronard. As the car wasn't very popular, no RHD version of the 3rd gen was built. This new Avalon is very different from the previous model, which was regarded as a Japanese Buick.

Seeing that Toyota plans to export the next gen. Highlander/ Kluger from the US (No more Japan built vehicles for the next one.), it would be nice to see this in RHD form for export to Japan & Australia, as a flagship/ niche model that goes against cars like the VW Passat CC. Might probably need a new name here though (Not sure if Australians would react well to the Avalon name, after what we got.).

You can see what the second & third gen. models look like here http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2e/2003-04_Toyota_Avalon.jpg/800px-2003-04_Toyota_Avalon.jpg

  5. So my Avensis got rear ended back in late February and just this morning (Friday) I left it at the AAMI Repair Link. Earlier tonight as I drove home after picking my dad up in the Camry, My dad and I happened to see my Avensis heading in the opposite direction. It was hard to confirm it 100% but the the lights set up with same blue DRLights is all I needed to know it was my car.

I'm not sure what to make of it atm, I won't get to see it for another week or so. I guess whoever has my car would be using it for the weekend.

Please share some wisdom as to what to make of this, maybe someone had a similar situation and what my course of action should be when I get the car back. I know they may not have the right to use a customer car for personal use but I mean, once you leave your car with them, what can you do? Therefore I'm happy to just forget about it if the extra kms are reasonable for a weekend... I can only hope for the best that it was being used by a sensible person...

Sorry if some of this is grammatically incorrect or doesnt make sense...its late, I'm tired, I'm just really fond of the car hence my head is just spinning with thoughts atm...

Maybe keep a note of the time, date & location where you witnessed it, then check the odometer when you get the car. Ask the workshop that you spot your car on that particular date, time & location, ask them where was the car taken to and see what they say.

Seen four people in my parents Merc driving nearby my university one time (Saw them turning out of a mall, which has KFC in it.). Called my parents, who then contacted the dealer who tried to deny and claim that only two technicians are allowed in the car for 'test drives'. After this happened, I took a photo of the odo & trip meter just in case, before sending both car out for servicing or repairs.

  6. I guess I have the taste of a conservative person/ old man, but I find the rear end of the regular Aurion okay.

Anyways, the Thai version has been released, and here are the brochures (Hybrid & Non-Hybrid.). Base model (2.0G) still powered by 1AZ-FE from 2001 model & no more V6 for Thailand (I guess Toyota Australia could take advantage of the FTA and export Camry V6-badged Aurions there.). Hybrid Navi takes over as the top spec car (Has rear seat controls, first seen the previous gen. Camry 3.5Q V6). Oh, Smoked LED headlights on the Hybrid version too! Wished Toyota Australia adopted the Hybrid model's bumper design (Or the Mainland Chinese-spec Camry SE front bumper design.) for the regular grades (AT-X, Prodigy & Presara.).

  7. On the red car are 16 inch wheels for the base model. The wheels on the orange one is unique to the Tokyo Motor Show prototype, could be the same car from the show.

  8. I don't recall the brochure of our M-class mentioning if the wood used is real, fake or the source of the wood, but a visit to the parts department confirmed it, as the owner wouldn't be able to order the pieces of wood trim separately if one of the pieces is scratched up/ damaged (This is also the case with Lexus.).

Oh yeah, even on cars that have real wood, it's usually a thin veneer, on a plastic (I know the 2gen. Lexus IS has a brown plastic base underneath the veneer.) or aluminum base covered by a layer of clearcoat (Which probably gives people the impression that it's plastic wood.). It's like that in our Merc, even Lexus & Bentley. Apparently, the wood trim will warp after a while if it's a thick piece. Oh yeah, there's also matte wood trim, which some mistakenly identify as fake wood the first time they see it (I guess you could blame some of the Korean cars from the mid to late 90s that came with matte plastic wood trim for that.).

Anyways, I think we might have veered a little off topic from the 2012 Camry. ^_^

*Tries to get back on topic* Was behind one on the way back from uni earlier, the taillights would look really nice with LEDs in them. Hopefully Toyota add LEDs when the Hybrid or facelift model comes out.

  9. You can always get a plastic kit that looks the closest to your car, and modify it to look like your car. They will take up a lot to of skill & time to build (Especially the customization part.), and most are 1/24 scale though.

Or, if you have access to 3D software (like Solidworks, AutoCad, CATIA & etc.), you can design one & send it to a place that specializes in 3D printing. Might cost a lot, but at least you can make a model of your car.

  10. "Whilst that is true about the LS460, but you can't really say it's the same stuff as what's in the Camry lol"

Yes, Lexus cultivates its fake woodgrain from a unique plantation of fake trees grown in the Japanese highlands. On the other hand, Toyota sources its fake woodgrain from a fictional forestry plantation in the Philippines.

That's odd. I thought Lexus uses real wood trim, made by Yamaha. I also remember reading a thread where an owner sanded down & refinished his wood trim, don't think that can be done with plood (Unless I'm wrong.).

  11. Hey wait a min...the one with window buttons on door pic...am I seeing things? Is that a REAR window wiper button underneath the parking sensor switches?

Although if that is the new Aurion we are getting, the pictures makes it look smaller?

That button is for the headlight washers. They are either not available, an option or standard (Mainly Euro-spec cars with factory HIDs or snowy countries.) in European countries. Some cars have them controlled by a separate button, or when the windscreen washers are activated.

  12. Russian-spec Camry A.K.A. Aurion. Came across these two, while surfing through drom.ru (Something like a Russian Cardomain.).

  13. Just to clear things up. Other than the 2.0 & 2.4, we never got the 3.5 V6 model in Malaysia. As far as I know, there are two Aussie-spec TRD Aurions in Malaysia, brought in by a grey importer.

Oh, and looking at the other videos, that is a Taiwanese-spec modded Camry lol, they get the 3.5V6 & the 2.0 four cylinder engines. Also, shops in Asia sell TRD Aurion-style bodykits (Like this one.).

  14. Nice pics there Ben. Oh and in the interior photo of the Taiwanese Camry taxi, that gear knob is an aftermarket lockable type.

One thing unique about the Isis is the pillarless passenger side & foldable front passenger seat making entry and exit easier (Made its debut on the Toyota Raum in 1997). Oh, and just like it's twin, the Toyota Wish, it's also Corolla based!

  15. Are those 3rd row seats i see (3:21)? thats so cool!

Yup, they are rear-facing seats. It is also common on the option lists of European wagons.

Now for something different. the 2002 WiLL Cypha, by Toyota. Third (And last.) vehicle marketed under the joint-venture WiLL brand, this is basically the first Toyota to have G-Book, an in-car telematics system with internet connectivity (You can make reservations for a table at a restaurant, or check out shop details in the car, for example.).
