  1. Back onto that topic of VSC, I thought I'll post another word or two. So backtracking to before when I was 'testing' it, the one key thing about all that was that it was intentional. I entered each scenario knowing exactly what was going to happen (or meant to happen). When you are prepared for such situations, it's easy to recover. When your car loses traction unexpectedly, things get rather interesting. So cut to earlier this evening. I was firstly on my way to the meet (well on my way to Albion Station regardless) and as I was travelling down the Pacific Motorway at the assigned speed limit of 100km/h and it was raining quite heavily. I slowed down to about 90-95km/h as the rain got heavier. I was travelling right next to some 4WD going about the same speed. All of a sudden I feel the steering get light and can feel the car drifting to the left slightly and the VSC light was flashing. My first reaction was to hit the brakes, but only lightly to reduce my speed. Since the VSC was working madly, just a light press of the brakes gave off the ABS pulsating feel. The car was slowing down though, and since I didn't feel so safe next to this 4WD I moved over to the far right lane. This lane change was absolutely perfect regardless of the fact that I still had my foot lightly on the brake and the pedal was vibrating rapidly. Next was on my way back from the station. Travelling down the Western Freeway, on the recommended speed limit of 90km/h (rain had reduced to a drizzle), I ran over a slightly flooded section of road. This was a pretty serious scenario because it was on a really slight curve and I had my wheels turned very slightly. Next thing, I feel the whole car just slip out of place, and my knowledge of not forcefully correcting the car when VSC is working just went out the window. So I enter a funny side to side swerve (just like the one in the traction control symbol, or those yellow road signs) and next thing I hit my brakes lightly (the pedal was pulsating rapidly) and the chaos subsides. I didn't leave the lane at all during this short experience which was very good. Had I have had no VSC; lets just say at 90km/h, both lanes would have been needed just to recover... if I could have. So VSC is a good feature to have and may help save your a** one day. And what have I learnt about this whole traction control experience. If you know defensive driving skills and am able to utilise it in a panic situation, then there is no harm in doing so with VSC active. You might find though that the car won't recover exactly as you may be hoping and may require a little 'back and forward' correction. If you don't know defensive driving skills and have VSC, if you enter a tricky situation, just steer the car in such a way the keeps it pointed in the direction that you are heading. One thing that will really help as well is by using your brakes when you start to lose it. It may seem like the wrong thing to do, but the ABS will prevent it from locking up and it will slow you car down. By slowing it down, you reduce the severity of the situation. All that, plus I need some better tires. Michelin Energy is a good all round tire, but I'm not satisfied with it's performance in the wet. On another side note, 8000k HID's are hopeless in the wet; though I've mentioned this already. I could barely see the flooded sections of road until I was nearly over it. If you are going for 8000k HID's, try and put good quality halogens into your fog lights and use them in the wet. The more yellow in the fog light the better the vision.
  2. Soft alright, LOL. I battled with some slippery roads on the way in. I had a bit to eat while at the station though so I guess no time was wasted. See you all next time I guess.
  3. My bad. Double post... stupid phone.
  4. ^ Mate, take your business elsewhere okay. Read the rules.
  5. Anyone going to be out tonight? I finish work at 8:30pm today so going straight to a meet would be quite convenient. I'll just stop by anyways at either location depending on how the weather holds up.
  6. Yeah.... with my foot. Edit: Seriously. When I fixed up the intake, it sounded really sweet at high RPM; so you could guess where I was going a lot of the time when accelerating from a standing stop. Then when I cut out the exhaust, I realised it sounded uber sweet as it was approaching redline. Accelerating from a standing stop has never been gentle anymore.
  7. Okay. Just thought I would post some updated figures. Looks like my average fuel consumption is going up. I think the lesson this is teaching me is that I really need to take it easy with my driving. As well, I've switched to PULP 98 (preferably Vortex 98), mainly because the decrease in fuel price. Don't know if I will stick with it once the prices go up but we'll see. As of 13/11/2008, over 18333km and 2089.2 litres, I have an average fuel consumption of 11.4l/100km. As per normal, I have included the spreadsheet in which I keep track of it all: Aurion Fuel Consumption (Excel Spreadsheet)
  8. Edit: LOL. My post made no sense earlier as I didn't read it properly. But in all seriousness, as much as I could do with a move to WA (I heard your beaches there are quite nice), I don't think it would be best suited for me. Good luck on the search Nellie.
  9. Whenever you shift into 'S' regardless of the gear that it is in, it will always default to 4th. Quite annoying actually because say you are currently in 3rd and need to shift to 2nd; when you push it into 'S' mode, you need to downshift twice to get it into 2nd. Just the little things like that which I find annoying. If you are approaching a set of lights and want to go through it when yellow, the fastest way to get it to drop in gear and help you accelerate through it is to simply put your foot all the way down. Regardless of the mode it is in, it will automatically drop in gears appropriately. Changing it over to 'S' mode then downshifting will probably provide the same performance as leaving it in 'D' and just putting your foot down.
  10. And that's why I love my Aurion. It has some damn hot looks which doesn't look common like the Holdens or Fords, and has the right balance between luxury, family, and sports. And with the stock muffler and intake, it is quite as well. I remember testing out the 0-100 for mine and got 7.2 seconds. This was on a cool night and when I planted my foot down from the traffic light there was absolutely no wheel slip. Must have been a good road. Anyways, I did this with a mate who had the stopwatch and I set the speed warning thing to 100km/h. The moment the speed warning indicator beeped, the stopwatch stopped, and then I got the time of 7.2 seconds.
  11. Banished for what? Man, Northy rocks up in his VE SS complete with NSW plates and fits in fine. You are more than welcome to meet. Some of us might even see you at the Annual Meet next year.
  12. What size engine do you have? My old 1991 SV21 had been taken up to around 175-180km/h on a few occasions. Never really had issues getting there, and that is with the 2L 4-cylinder. Took the following photo at one point, but had lost about 15km/h as I took my foot off the accelerator and by the time the camera focussed then: Edit: Now this wasn't on public road okay. And that camera was was sitting on something so i could have my hands on the wheel. Safety first okay.
  13. We don't want this to be like the US forums with all the flaming and all eh. I partially agree with chicaboo, but at the same time armstrong kind of brought it on himself by posting replies with breaks in his story (which has been pointed out). If you're going to continue with replies, at least try and be accurate and not all over the place. As for posting your speed, I don't think there is much you should need to panic about. They can't do you for what you've done. That said, if they were that concerned, they would take note of who you are and keep an eye out for you on the road. I doubt that would happen though. This is my highest speed recorded as per GPS (I have been higher and not happy that I didn't record that) and don't have a single worry about showing it here.

    Yay or ney?

In the case of 'new and improved', Mother is one of those that is a DEFINITE improvement. I was one of the lucky (unlucky?) ones to get 8 sample cans of Mother before it was released. I took it to work on the night I got it (night-fill) and my workmates agreed that is was sh!t. Can't believe that even after the feedback they still released it. Maybe that was their plan all along, hence the smart ads they ran when they released the new one. I also remember the ads for the old Mother, and when it came up in the cinemas, you were bound to hear someone nearby saying how crap it tasted. Wow, that was a lot of rambling. Anyways, the new and improved stuff sometimes is alright, but you can never really beat the originals. The new Solo isn't too bad, but it just isn't really Solo. Not a fan of the Vanilla Coke; something just doesn't seem right. Anyone remember blue Pepsi? They had that here for a little while. Wasn't too bad actually. Tasted like Pepsi, just a little different.
  15. Valuable writeup there BONDIE. I guess the only other person here who removed their resonator successfully would be Darius. He's got the advantage of the Varex setup though so he can cut out the noise if required. I'm thinking of going that route, but will need to wait until well into the new year. I thought I would get sick of driving with my exhaust dumped, but I find myself driving like 80% of the time with it open. I just can't help it. But yeah, you're right about the Aurion and its large variation in engine noise. I'm guessing because it is so well tuned. Like with nothing behind the resonator, the car idles pretty much silently, yet has a strong note when driving, and a sweet a** sound at redline (especially through a tunnel; ICB FTW). I've also noticed with mine that it sounds louder or quieter on different days. Haven't figured out why, but maybe temperature related.
  16. I'm up to page 34. Been reading a bit each day. Yeah, the images posted in reply are just classic. That Ellie girl really copped a fair bit.
  17. LOL. I actually laughed with that. Not at who it's directed at, but the actual quote itself. Man this tread has really steered off course
  18. Welcome to TOCAU and the Aurion Forums. The Aurion is certainly a good car isn't it. Out of curiosity, what colour did you end up getting? I would definitely agree with your pro's and cons there especially the one disadvantage of "Large front A pillar also impairs views". Takes a little getting used to, and I still get the odd issue with it now and again, mostly with pedestrians at crossing in parking lots. The rear visibility is also a nuisance, and has only been an issue for me with parking. I would always open the door and stick my head out to make sure I don't hit the car behind me. Getting a reversing camera was the best addition in my opinion. Get the window tints done ASAP. In my opinion, this simple addition to the car really changes the overall look to it. As well, read into the speaker upgrades in the sticky section, as there have been some interesting experiences with respect to that. Also, how much is that iPod controller going to set you back? May be more value in the end to upgrade your head unit and get some extra features as well.

    THE DATE GAME

To Conquest: Damn, it sucks enough when you need to work on your birthday, but that sounds plain horrible. This whole game has become an opportunity for me to reminisce for a bit. In one way or another, I have some form of reminder as to what had happened on a specific date, whether it be from a blog post, camera phone photo, or SMS archive (yes, I keep them all). For this one on 1st of April 2007, I remember it being a lazy Sunday since being a Woolworths night filler, I worked the whole night before. I used this day to create my MySpace (yes that may seem geeky), then had to head to work around 6:30pm for a full night of work. I even blogged about it (spelling mistake included): Next date: 28th of May 2007
  20. I would really have loved to get the moonroof option. Had I bought my car new or had a little less restriction in my choice, then I definitely would have one on mine. I guess I gotta live with what I have. I'm not complaining though. I drive an Aurion... period.
  21. Probably wouldn't take my advice since I've worked on it way too much, but to give an idea if you know what you're doing, LOL. Installed my head unit minus the camera and TV antenna in under 30 minutes bright and early in the morning before I had to go to work. This included putting everything back together only to realise that I left the transit screws in the disc mechanism and had to take it all out again. When I came around to installing the camera and TV antenna, all up it took around 2 hours because of all the messing around I had to do to fit the camera. I would say that to get the head unit up and running, most should have it done under an hour. For the reverse camera installation, depending on the camera you have and how creative you are with fitting it, give yourself a few hours to take it easy. So yeah, 4-5 hours all up should be about right.

    THE DATE GAME

    11 October 2007. Wooo. Just got a PS3. http://djkor.blogspot.com/2007/10/sweet.html http://djkor.blogspot.com/2007/10/technolo...cking-sexy.html Next date: 15 April 2007
  23. More like where did this year go? Flew by just a little too quick.
  24. Come on DJ i have more faith in you than thinking you actually beleive that... Also watch part 2 Funny you posted the video here as well. I was about to post the following after watching it on the website. Now I will say I was wrong in previous statement, but not completely. I was referring to it only if they stayed on the same area, ie. the windscreen or the front of the car: Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load! In a case like what they showed at the beginning with the truck, then yes; you would have some reason to dispute it, but otherwise this is just a lot of your typical ACA stuff, and then added to a site trying to market and sell their radar detectors. If you have reason to believe that the cop that got you targeted you from a wide angle or while you were less than 200 metres away from them, then there is a greater chance of error there. When you are further away and within about 20 degrees offset from them, it is pretty hard to get error from targeting the side of your car. At distance and within a 20 degree angle, they can only really get much error from travelling from your windscreen down your bonnet. Even in that case though, within the time that the LIDAR does its reading, they would only be able to move it enough to create up to about 3.6km/h error (if I get time I will even draw it up). All the cops that I have driven by that are using a hand-held unit was targetting from a distance greater than 200 meters and on an angle 20 degrees or less. Now all that only really applies to cops with hand-held units. Originally posted was a question about the camera cars. The errors mentioned above don't really apply. Like I said, I'm not trying to target one side's supporting view in particular, I just like to see the other side to an argument. If you're name is Scott Cooper though, I would not be so happy about all this forum advertising. Now this thread has become like one big advertisement for that site. As well, I just find it suspicious when someone claims that if your case wins, you have no fees or charges, but if you lose, his only charge is $65. No I don't know how all these no win/no pay guys work, but to me it sounds suspicious because some way or another, they need to earn a living. Anyways, this is all coming from someone who now has 2 points left on his open licence, almost always travels more than 10km/h above the speed limit (except for when is truly is not safe to), and does stupid sh!t like this:
  25. Not trying to be a d!ck, but let's put it this way. Why is it more risky to run through an office than outside? I am not trying to prove one person right or wrong, just providing my thoughts. These only really apply to stationary speed cameras or officers with hand-held LIDAR units. If you get pulled over by a cop that was following you, then you don't have much you can argue about. As for the video posted above, they are right in that moving the unit will create error. What they failed to think of were the actual physics of that situation. Sure they got a speed reading, but that was because the distance to the ground got progressively shorter. People would watch that thinking all kinds of crap about the units being inaccurate. Fact of the matter is, if you are aiming it at an approaching car and you pan to the side (because you are too far off from being directly in front of the car), you will actually read a SLOWER speed than the actual. This would only happen in the case of increasing the angle between the LIDAR and the car, but it would be extremely hard to create the opposite scenario in which you would read a higher speed. Don't beleive me? Draw it up for yourself. Anyways, there is a reason you see a majority of cops who use these either leaning against a street sign/lamp post, or leaning on their car/bike.
