Wouldn't make a difference to the original headlights fitted in terms of illuminating stuff. It is only a parker light alternative. They may be brighter than your average parkers and with your headlights off will definitely be bright, but once your headlights are on, you wouldn't know the difference from the driver's seat. It would look sweet as from the front though, but you definitely need HID's to finish the look.

While still on the traction control topic, one thing I remembered while out tonight is how useful it is to have the traction control especially in the wet. So while my car is in the shop, I've been driving my sister's Mazda3 around. Alright little car with 205 wide tires as standard. The only system it has on it is ABS, so it has definitely been fun doing some stupid things in it that I wouldn't be able to do on the Aurion (the small size is a bonus as well). Anyways, so last night after the rain, I took it out for a spin. The first thing that I remembered with my Aurion in the wet with traction control is this incidence. Then I headed past this downhill turn around the windy streets in my area. There is this one turn in particular that in the wet, if you take it at just the wrong angle and even at 5km/h below the limit, you have a good chance of sliding out. Reason for that is a stupid manhole cover right on the edge of the turn. So the first time I ever encountered it was in my Camry. The street is pretty wide at that point and in my Camry, I managed to enter an irrecoverable slide (worn down tires didn't help) that sent my car into a 360, after which I pulled out of, continued along, and thought to myself, 'holy sh!t'. My sister has managed to slip there as well in her old Excel, and pull a 180. Needless to say, we now know where not to drive when taking the corner. So anyways, I get the Aurion and decide to see what the traction control can do. On the first rainy day I get I take it to that wonderful corner. I take the corner on the speed limit and at the appropriate angle needed to slide, then at the point were I felt like the car would slip, I feel the ever so slightest amount of slip and then hear the pulsing of the ABS/VSC actuator. The next feeling is one of the weirdest. The car continues driving along the path that I was directing it in, however it felt like it was hovering on the road and being pushed like a kid playing with a Matchbox car. It really was different. Took the Mazda3 up to it last night and without the traction control, I could definitely feel some good slide there. The Mazda had some decent grip though and the slide was easy to prevent with minor adjustment (and knowledge of what would happen), but it just goes to show that the traction control is definitely useful to have for the unexpected. For a less experienced driver, something like this could end up more ugly. Like with this turn, it's not something that you would expect by looking at it. It's all due to a manhole cover in the most inconvenient place which is hard to see in the wet. You're average driver may think that they are driving safely, but something like this could throw them off balance and their reaction may not be as great. Like I said earlier; it helps fill the gaps.

That was the point of this thread. Didn't really spoil our fun there. LOL. Hence why I also posted my thoughts on the sports mode on a crappier car Mazda3.

Those look sweet. Looking at it reminds me of those macro lights that go around the lens of a camera. LED's are the way to go these days. As well, at least it is less susceptible to breakage like CCFL angel eyes.

Brisbane Meetup (Every Thursday 9pm)
DJKOR replied to Danthuyer's topic in Previous/Past Club Meets & Events
I'll be there; once again minus the Aurion. Should be on track to be at next weeks meet with it though. -
Replacing the plastic console with something nicer.

If this all happened about 4 months ago, it looks like you would have been in for an easy swap. Check out the thread: If i bought a... If you weren't too concerned about having everything absolutely perfect, a vinyl cover would be your best bet. -
Nothing can compare to good driving skills though. But even the best of all driver's can get into a mess. The electroinic safety features are good at filling in the gaps and because you can't always predict the circumstances. Apparently the guys over in the States that drive on roads that can get icy really love how good the traction control is on their Gen6 Camry's which is essentially like our Aurion.

Actually, in the case of folding seats, they can build some bracing into the seats itself. What would happen is that when the seats are upright and locked into place, they provide extra rigidity, but when folded down, a slight amount of this rigidy is lost but not completely as there is probably improved bracing on the frame behind the seats. Of course this would be nowhere near as good as the same car without folding seats, but anything is better than nothing I guess. With the Aurions, all have that rear bracing and have no folding seats. The folding seats option between the standard and Sportivo model only applies to the Camry.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but all the talk on the intake thread has made me think of bringing this thread back so I can post some further opinions. So, for the past week I have had to drive my sister's Mazda3 around. It's definitely a huge difference compared to the Aurion, but I must say, at least Mazda got it right in the sports mode. The sports mode in this car behaves just as I would like the Aurion one to. Firstly, when you change over to sports mode, it will automatically enter the gear that the car was currently in when in auto mode. Secondly, whatever gear you select, the car will stay in that gear. If you put your foot down, it is going to stay in that gear and won't automatically kick down. When slowing down, it will hold the gear for as long as it can, after which it will automatically drop down in gear and stay there (so say it automatically changes to 3rd, it will stay there even if you put your foot down afterwards). As well, when you come to a complete stop, it will automatically go to 1st so that if you forget to downshift, you will at least start in the right gear. On a side note, when at a complete stop, you have the ability to put the car into 2nd and launch from that gear. There are some minor things as well that I wish the Aurion would do. The display on the dash shows which gear the car is in regardless of whether it is in auto or sports mode; in my opinion it is always nice to know that. Also as well, the gear shift for sports mode is actually the right way around; that is pull to upshift, push to downshift. I have gotten so used to the Aurion, which had led to a few occasions of epic mis-shift in the Mazda where I have pushed it to just about redline in first gear then pushing on the shift lever (which would do absolutely nothing) then having the rev-limiter kick in. Sure I can quite easily swap a couple of wires around to reverse the one on the Aurion, but I would like to have the fascia on the gear shift show the + and - around the right way. So yeah, I thought I would share my experience with the Mazda. So it's funny to think that Mazda managed to get it right on a small car with a 4 speed auto, yet Toyota managed to mess up slightly. One thing to note though is that the Mazda shifts smoothly in auto mode, but is comparably rough in sports mode when compared to the Aurion. Even still, it would be nice if the Aurion behaved that way. Even if it was to shift roughly in sports mode, you would be entering it for the purpose of having manual control. If you wanted it to shift smoothly, you would then leave it in auto mode.

In response to the first part of the story, you car has adjusted to you. You've set the standard for it. Hehehe. It's like my old Camry... was stable at anything above 105km/h, but below that was fairly rough. But joking aside, from the sounds of it, it seems like your MAF sensor isn't mounted very well. You should take a few photos to show how it's sitting. It should be pretty secure and shouldn't wiggle around. If it's mounted solidly, my next step would be to get some electrical contact cleaner, disconnect the sensor, clean out the plug and socket (and while you're at it, clean the sensor) then connect it all up again. Sometimes these things can be pretty sensitive, and a dirty electrical connection can mess things up ever so slightly.

Well... I think the silence was probably more not knowing what to say in response.

This would be a situation where I would go downstairs and take a photo. Can't quite do that now, so I'll just answer with words. Yes, that is the main reason why there are no folding rear seats. Behind the rear seats you will find some cross-bracing kind of like a big 'V' going from one side to the other. Edit: This drawing kind of shows part of it.

Nup. That's what I thought. Just appears to be some guy who probably upgraded his rims.

Since this was resurected, mine is http://www.myspace.com/djkor87 , http://djkor.com redirects there as well. I don't really use it much anymore. Everyone seems to be on Facebook these days, and I guess you just gotta follow the trend. The younger generation seems to use Bebo as well, but I'm over that.

Lucky for you people that can access this site from work. While I am studying, I work in a call centre and they have blocked access to ANY forums. It is quite annoying since I always have a lot of free time to burn. I have to resort to using my phone to access here. At the moment though, I'm at TAFE (every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 8-5) and have nothing to do as usual, so I can bum around on the forums instead, since the QLD department of education proxy is fairly unrestrictive.

Some things I don't want to know.

Mmmmm. <drools> That's just downright sexy.

Looking clean and smooth. Looking at the grill made me look a photo of mine. I really can't wait to get it back. As well, as much as I like the sound from the Varex, I'm still not a fan of canons on the Aurion. Each to their own though. I'm just really picky. Come to think of it, I think I don't like the look of it because of how low it hangs. Maybe if the cutout in the bumper was a little higher and the mufflers sat higher, I would feel more comfortable.

automatice gated shift
DJKOR replied to Ascendant Rice's topic in General Toyota & Other Car Discussions
On the gated style automatic shifter, I would think that shifting up through the gears isn't as wearing on the box as shifting down through the gears. That said though, on my old auto Camry SV21, I would constantly down shift all the way to '2' (turning overdrive off to get into 3rd, then putting the shifter into '2' for second) to help slow my car down while using the brake less. That gearbox was bullet-proof though. No matter what I did to it, it would never die. I once left it in '2' and was entering the highway as quick as I can. I got up to 115km/h before realising that I left it there in 2nd. For some reason, after that my car felt like it was running better. But yeah, try and minimise down shifting manual style in an auto. Not quite the best. The Toyota box can take a bit of abuse, but I only really gave it to my Camry since it was getting old and I felt like giving it all I could. -
That's insane! Wouldn't mind taking that for a spin. I would have a fear of flipping the thing though.

While on that subject of squeling tires, I think it may be the suspension setup on th Aurion, or some combination of its steering track because on mine with the Michelins, I get squeling when turning on smooth surfaces where other cars would be just fine. Do you also notice that when turning tightly at slow speed, the car tends to pull the steering with a bit of force towards the limits?
-
Exactly the same here. I think you will find that a lot of us that are changing parts on our ones had the original idea of not touching theirs as well. It's definitlely hard not to do anymore. As for the future of mine... I think I am done with the outside... time to step to the inside. Let's just say that I get really bored at TAFE and have a ton of time to draw stuff up. I am now working on the electronics side of my SX6.

Damn, that sounds so much more simple to remember. The moment I read that, I was like "I'm so going downstairs to test that" so I could see if the non push button start works with it, then I remembered that I can't :(

Car insurance suggestion please
DJKOR replied to kirby7777's topic in General Toyota & Other Car Discussions
I guess everyone has different stories to tell. My family has been with AAMI for yonks and have never had a problem with them. I recently got into a bit of a bingle (not my fault), and within 24 hours of it happening, my car was being assessed and within 36 hours, it was at the panel shop. All I did was lodge a claim over the phone, rock up to their assessment centre for 5-10 minutes, and they took care of the rest. -
You should head out to the meets on Thursday night. LOL. One by one, each Aurion there is being modified slightly.
