  1. Just hope you don't get any problems with your tail lights that are not covered by warranty. Those LED tail lights ain't cheap. For just one side, the very corner one that wraps from the back corner to the side, expect a replacement cost of $600.
  2. Look closely, is the disc not going in fully? I had the exact same problem. I only tested with the disc AFTER I put the console back together. Ask yourself this question; "did I remove the two transit screws at the top of the head unit?". I was panicking when mine didn't take the disc until I suspected that there was some transit protection mechanism (like washing machines). I pulled the unit out and fancy that; two transit screws. Stupid warning sticker on it wasn't really noticeable.
  3. I was asked about the wiring so I thought I would post it here so others can see as well. For the reverse light, I connected the pink wire (Auspack unit) to the wiring that leads to the reverse lights. This can be found on the passenger side kick panel as shown: The connector you are after is the one that I've circled in red. The wire on this that tests +12v when reverse is selected is the red wire that is located in between the black and the grey wire as shown (if you position the connector so it is facing you like in the pic, the cable is the one in the middle closed to you): As for powering the reverse camera, I simply connected it to the reverse light on the left hand side. Nothing special there, just the red with black trace for positive, and white with black trace for ground. My connections look bulky, but thats because I use bullet connectors to enable me to easily remove any modifications to factory wiring that I may have done. That's about all that I can think of that was required. Apart from that it is just the running of cables. However how you want to do that is up to you.
  4. This discussion about agreed and market value got me wondering what I have for mine. I looked at my policy and it states the amount covered is "$32,800 agreed value or market value if higher". Does this mean I have an agreed value of $32,800 then?
  5. Nice job! Been looking at installing mine for my SX6 also, so no factory mounting hole - but you can see the spot where it should go. Was it just a matter of drilling there with the provided holesaw or something else obvious? Might install mine this weekend :-) Thanks, bok For actually mounting the camera, it truly was as easy as using the included holesaw then mounting the camera. If you have the camera like mine, you can actually see the included angle cut sleeve to angle the camera higher for a better field of view. Then you need to create a cutout in the plastic part where the number plate mounts on. To do this, I used the holesaw then used a file and sandpaper to enlarge the hole so that the camera has an unobstructed view. Actually, there are two little edges that can be seen on my display but that is because of the way my camera is mounted and I didn't want to cut the plastic any further. I originally had the camera mounted so that it stuck out another 5mm, in which case it was an unobstructed view, but thanks to my chunky number plate, I had to move it back so it didn't stick out as much. Also, because of that, you can also see part of my number plate at the bottom of the display. Edit: Here are a couple of photos. This camera isn't the greatest if you want the widest field of view, but for me, I only put the camera in because a) it came with the head unit and B) it will save me from sticking my head out the door to gauge if I am parked sufficiently. Click to enlarge: One thing to notice as well (the picture doesntt do any justice) but the camera can actually see in a straight line back from the height that the camera is mounted at. The reason why you can only see driveway in the second pic is because my driveway is on a slope. You can see the top of the driveway in the picture, which lines up with the same height as the camera. If you weren't really looking it's not that easy to notice the camera. I'm quite satisfied with the install. Like I already said, I've just got it there because it would be an unused feature otherwise, so it's not extremely critical for me to have the widest field of view. i will still probably take the panel off again later and see if I can improve the vision, but right now I have an assignment I need to finish.
  6. Yeah, I thought the same when I first got into my Aurion. Actually the first thing that I thought was "where's the handbrake?". The gear shift has been placed in the ideal location. Nothing to complain about there. Now I probably wouldn't go around intentionally trying to recreate wheel hop. Firstly it can cause wear on drivetrain components and secondly, the feeling of it alone is enough to make you not want to get in that situation again. Anyways, I don't think the wheels actually "hop" like you would think. It's more of a repeating back and forward movement. Quoted from: http://www.mc2racing.com/tech/20061012a/index.html
  7. Yep, that would be "wheel hop". It's pretty bad when it happens isn't it? I first experienced it when accelerating too hard in the wet, most noticeably on a hill. My Aurion was the first car that I ever experienced it in, so when it did happen, it scared the s*** out of me. I thought my dash was going to fall apart and my engine would rip out. It was only brief, but it was bad. Just need to avoid accelerating too hard that you may spin the wheels. I never knew about the dynamics of wheel hop, I just always thought that the wheels would spin and that would be it. That's what happened in my old Camry.
  8. Okay. All good now. After some careful measurements, I managed to barely fit the camera in above the number plate. That way I have now used the camera that was provided as well as having night vision as well. Bit of a hassle to install, but I got there in the end. Click to enlarge:
  9. I've got my photo elsewhere in this forum, can not find it - You may want to look at this THREAD Thanks for the nice highlighting. I have already seen that thread, and was well aware of Aurion ZR6's installation since he first posted it. I am also aware that he has done a HID installation writeup as well as a writeup on reversing the gear selector around. I have pretty much been through all posts on the Aurion forum. Anyways, I did say that: "I just want to get an overall idea of the possible mounting points before I was to drill any holes. I stated that I was trying to steer away from the centre of the number plate hence why I have asked: "to get some ideas as to what other people may have". This also left the topic open for any suggestions since I have mentioned my idea of mounting next to the number plate. There may be someone that has experienced a different installation point. It was a simple question that's all.
  10. Yeah, I do realise that for this car (and probably every other car), the best fit would be above the number plate in the centre. The only reason why I am avoiding this is because of the design of my number plate and in my opinion, would not look so great. You can see in the attached photo just how close the plate is to the top, not to mention that the plate is about 1cm thick due to its frame. I was just wondering if anyone else has a camera mounted differently and if so, where it was mounted. Click to enlarge:
  11. Hi, I've recently received a Nav unit that has the reverse camera functionality. I just need to mount the camera now but was wondering if any of you out there that have the reverse camera fitted (factory or aftermarket) could upload a picture of the mounting position for your camera. I just want to get an overall idea of the possible mounting points before I go ahead and drill a hole in my boot. I was really wanting a symmetrical look by mounting above the number plate, but my personalised plate is in a rather bulky frame which prevents me from doing so. The area I'm thinking of now is to the right of the number plate. I've already got a camera as shown in the attached picture, but this would be best installed flush with the boot lid on the same pane as the number plate, hence being more visible. My other option is to get another camera from eBay and to mount it so that it 'sticks down' (on the same pane as the number plate lights) and is less visible. I was just hoping to get some ideas as to what other people may have. Thanks.
  12. Must just be the white balance with the camera. Looks like you have HID's in there. Either way; looks nice. Super cheap has the new car fragrance... I think I'll check that out. I've tried others in the past and haven't been able to come close. Probably if you can find some quality dash/trim protectant and good carpet/upholstery cleaner you may be able to acheive the smell you are after. I guess it's just one of the perks of buying a new car I guess.
  13. Must just be the white balance with the camera. Looks like you have HID's in there. Either way; looks nice.
  14. Looks nice just from the avatar alone. Already got your lights swapped eh? As holmesie said, enjoy the first few weeks of ownership. Also, I'm not sure about you, but the new car smell is something to savour while it lasts.
  15. Hi DJKOR, Mine does as long as you don't eject the CD or DVD. Out of curiosity, do you have the unit with the updated firmware; the one that doesn't beep with the button presses? Mine has the firmware that DOESN'T beep with the buttons.
  16. Out of curiosity, if you were to gut the inside of the underbody cat in the Aurion, do you think you may still pass emission tests? Remember, the Aurion has 3 cats to meet the highest European standard which is higher than the Australian standard. So if you gutted the underbody one and left the other two on, there is that possibility that it may pass emision tests to Australian standard and with the appearance of a third one there, everything may be fine. Just a quote from "FOUR STARS FOR THE NEW TOYOTA AURION" "The Aurion easily meets what are called the Euro IV emission standards, which are more than twice as tough as the Euro III standards that are currently imposed in Australia." Just a thought.
  17. thanks mate,, ive just bought a new blank , so i have "the chip "already ,,,what im asking is how does oneprogram it,,, obviously the car must have to go into some program mode using the original. cheers Yeah, you do need to put the car into programming mode. But as was already mentioned here, "Aurion sportivo paint, manual, mission oil and remote key", you will need to take it into Toyota because you need the Intelligent Tester to do so. You will be looking at about $35-$45 for them to do that.
  18. For those that have this unit, does yours remember the position in the track for music? I have tried both an MP3 CD and DVD and it seems to go to the beginning of the track every time I enter back into DVD mode either from power off or from the SOURCE screen.
  19. Well in regards to how the unit looks in terms of OEM fit, you have to see it installed for yourself before you can make any judgement. Long story short, all my closest friends grouped together and got me the Auspack unit for my 21st birthday. Severely hung over, I was still so excited that I just had to install it this morning before work. I managed to get the unit installed (minus the camera) and I must say, it looks so much better in person. It looks really clean and of OEM standard. I even managed to download IGO8 and the Australia maps with POI's. With that combination, this unit fricken awesome.
  20. I would be leaning more towards the possibility that it was taken off. The cover has a little bit of plastic that should keep it attached to the bumper when you pop it off (kind of like a hanging tag). There is the possibility that wind resistance ripped it off when it was hanging there, but it should have held pretty good. I would just call Toyota spare parts. They might have the part, probably unpainted though.
  21. That hole is for the towing hook. Have a look in your boot at the spare wheel cover. There is a rod with a loop in it. That screws into that hole. I would probably ask Toyota if you could get a replacement cover for the panel.
  22. Not trying to start any debates or anything, since I'm one to take chances, so I'm not complaining about legality issues. But for anyone out there that are concerned about the fine for not having a cat, I hear that it is something ridiculous like $10k.
  23. Yeah, that's the one I was referring to. Here are some pics of what was under that. Click to enlarge.
  24. I never understood how those work. Last time I was at Willowbank for the 42nd Australian Nationals, they brought out a Solara that they just got from the USA. It was powered by a 2JZ with a Garrett GT60. That car was wicked quick. Basically though, it was just the shell that was the Solara. This basically looks like what is being show here. So what exactly does the car need to have (such as in this case) to make them call it an Aurion? I'm just curious as to how this all works.
  25. Sorry for jumping to this discussion but talking about fog lights - Just read few days ago: In Victoria, you can not turn the fog lights on if no fog - I rearely turn my fog lights on but that why I'm worying about because I may forget turn they off. BH Here in Queensland they haven't quite updated the list to mention front fog lights. /QRR_part13_lights_and_warning_devices.pdf The document only mentions "The driver of a vehicle fitted with a rear fog light must not operate the fog light unless the driver is driving in fog or other hazardous weather conditions causing reduced visibility." There are a lot of drivers around here that use their fog lights in combination with their headlights. Personally, I don't like the combination of using both. I only use my fog lights when it is approaching night and I think I can make it to where I need to get to without it getting dark enough that it justifies turning my headlights on. That way I reduce the usage of my HID's. Just on of those little things I'm picky with. Apparently as well, I've heard that using your fog lights in combination with your headlights actually reduces your visibility at night. Don't quote me on it though. I think its something to do with the fact that things at a closer distance will be lighted up with more emphasis which makes things at a longer distance less noticeable.
