you mean gen 1 and gen 2 right ;)

MK1 is an AW11

MK2 in an SW20

the biggest difference between the gen 1 and gen 2 SW20s is the brakes which are larger on the gen 2 (which is post 94 I think)

there are also generation differences with the engines but they are harder to tell from just looking ;)

no... there ARE 2 versions of the SW20... the later has a better brake package.

they are designated in MR2 circles as Gen1 and Gen2...

MK1 and MK2 correspond to chassis changes.

MK1 is the aw11 and the MK2 is the SW20....so there was no cosmetic changes to the SW20 when they added the brack package to it?

The tail-lights and rear garnish were changed in the SW20 mid-life facelift. Early ones had solid-ish taillights with the black inset garnish between them, the later ones had round lenses within the tail-lights and a body-coloured flush garnish. Also, the rear suspension was modified to try and calm down the rather unwanted (to novice drivers) tail-happy attitude that the car had at the limit, although I think Toyota made the suspension changes before the mid-life upgrade, so a Gen I might still have the upgraded suspension
