I've seen one or two other camry's in same situation as mine - whereby the antenna doesn't fully extend. Has anyone else had this problem, how can i fix?

What model gen4 is it?

Sedan or wagon?

Does it have a power antenna or not?

If it's a power antenna it'll need either a new mast or moter, or possibly a wiring fault.

If it's a manual antenna it's probably just a bit seized by weather and age and will need a forceful yank.

Or just pull one of a wreck and replace it.

yea i have that problem, and i have the 4th gen 02 advantage

mine is a motor antenna and it doesnt go all the way. it affects the reception of the radio to some degree.

i hope i dont need a new motor, but i dont think i'll fix it cuz i dont radio often.

this problem seems to be a common one in 4gen motored antennas

thanks for your replies, does sound like same problem, wixy. - it is a power antenna on my gen4 sedan. and yeah it does affect reception to some degree. anyway sounds like i just live with it until i can be bothered / can afford to replace.

Some things to try:

Wipe some Vaseline on the antenna, don't overdo it.

Check for bends or kinks. These can sometimes, if they aren't too big. Stroking the antenna and apply slight pressure in the opposite direction can do wonders, also works for bent shafts on golf clubs.

Manual assistance while the antenna extends and retracts can correct the problme if the drive section has skipped some notches.

Complete replacement of the antenna is not always necessay. The extandable section can be purchased and replaced fairly easily.

Not a problem. I've tried all of them except the replacement, mainly because all of the others worked, including the bent(slightly) antenna...Don't have problems now..
