use to own a 1990 CSX manual camry...

3.5" paper cone stock speakers in front and 5.25" rears.

having said that you can fit 4" in front and 6" in the back.

i replaced the stock with pioneers - back and front and a entry level pioneer mp3 player. sounded great but better with an amp, the stock cones were quite efficient, however, but only 1 way so it sounded flat.

ahhhh my old sv21's

it was old, done more than 370,000kms, and it was reliable. just dont count on it being efficient at 20years old without an engine change!

re speakers.

i found a pretti good balance actually. fronts i placed some 4' speakers that concentrated on the midrange and high frequencies,

and the rear i purchased spacers, and fitted 6x9's. paint your spacers with grey paint or something to match the colour of your interior. mine was grey.

on my head unit i made sure i adjusted the fader (balance between rear&front speakers) to a 60%front 40% rear, and at a balanced volume (NOT doof doof) it was great.

my speakers were mb quartz.

cheerios!

because of the speakers facing downwards towards ur knees/thigh, the fronts just didnt sound that good/loud no matter what was in them...

i have 4" speakers in the front dash and in thew rear doors, the front underdash sound quite good in my opinion... and they are only JVC's off a pioneer headunit.

aaah yes, the SV21. A truly mighty example of a Toyota which just doesn't know the word 'die'. The engine change mentioned will be inevitable. Nothing lasts forever. Replace the suspension for around $1,500 but watch out if you lower it at the same time. There's not a lot of real clearance underneath. Look out for rust in the 'A' pillars and turret as well. I cut heaps out of mine. I miss the old girl, but all good things must come to an end. Just wish I could have rescued the suspension components & engine before the knackers took her away. The donk only had 80,000k on it & 2.5 years on the suspension. **SIGH**
