Resale Values..

Recommended Posts

In the West Australian newspaper.. Saturday, 10-Jan-2004 Melville Motors here in Perth had a 2003 Sportivo, White, with only 2300kms on the Clock... Was advertised for $ 26,990.. Gotta say I hope my car doesnt drop to much more in value.. Toyotas are renowned for their strong resale... But less than 6 months old and $ 26990.. Hmmmmm Im scared... :(

That's only $3k down from the nominal new price before on-road costs. 10% is not very much depreciation at all.

It's worth comparing this to some other cars.

According to redbook, the sportivos have lost $2.5 to $6k:

Compare that to the RX8 which has already lost up to $10k from its dealer price:

or the XR8 which has also lost up to $10k

The 206 GTi has lost less, but from all accounts they're *really* hard to get new, so it's not a surprise that the used price is high:

The WRX has lost between $4k and $8.5k in value

In percentage terms the Toyota still looks pretty good, but I can't be ****d doing the maths. I'll leave it as an excercise to the reader.

Glad I didnt buy another Commodore then :o ... Just concerns me that I could lose that much over such a short period of time.. Like I paid $30900, but for the dealer to sell it a $26990 they would probably pay around the 25k to 25.5k mark... Thats ofcourse knowing how dealer margins work.. The dealer that tells you their losing on the deal, well, hes not... EVER !! They all have a bottom line and that line is never flexible... They only ever rob Peter to pay Paul..

I think the price wont drop much if you sell it now... $26k ..or if u sell it in one year..

cos the price drops the most in the first yr.

but anyway .....we arnt going to sell our babies..anyway..

we are having too much fun hitting lift... :D

But i hate the heat tho.....cos i am scared it mite hurt the engine..

so have to wait till the weather is cool....like last nite...

  • 2 months later...
There is a Stivo advertised in the Vic. region of the online Trading post that is stock with 11252km for $32990.

That is not bad re-sale. I would love to know what the dealer payed for it.
