Currently have an 05 Corolla Ascent, with the standard MP3/CD Double Din headunit. I was planning to, sometime in the distant future, change it to an all in one GPS/DVD/MP3/Bluetooth type unit.

In the meantime however, I was thinking of changing the headunit to the newer Toyota type. The ones which come with the new corollas. Either the standard

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TOYOTA-CD-MP3-SINGL...A1%7C240%3A1318

Or the Bluetooth/Six Stacker CD

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Toyota-Bluetooth-6-...A1%7C240%3A1318

I believe even the newer standard headunit would suit my needs better as it has an Aux in, which I can use with my iPod. I believe this should give me better sound quality then an FM transmitter?

So I was wondering if these newer headunits will fit properly and function in my older corolla? Is it easy to install, and does anyone have any instructions? Also, would it look alright? These units don't have any curves or slants in the fascia or anything which would make them look funny in an older corolla do they? Are the edges of the fascia straight?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

G'day,

I'm not sure that I can help you with your problem, however I was wondering if you might be able to help me with mine.

You have the exact same headunit as the one in mum's car. Have you ever had a flat battery and have needed to enter a security code to unlock the radio? If so how do you do it? I've tried that many combinations of buttons and it just won't budge.

I would be ever so greatful if you could help us out. :)

cheers

I'll actually be selling my headunit soon.

It's the 6 stacker, mp3 & bluetooth.

If it fits the plugs in an 03 Sportivo, I'd be interested. But don't your headunits have a dash fascia over them anyhow?

Just to hijack some more

The only difference will be the newer corollas are orange rather then green

Apart from that - Same size same everythign - Plug and play.

Oh nose! Orange lights sour things somewhat, unless there are a nice dark orange, a la sportivo style.

Okay, so the face of these new headunits are flat and not angled? Does anyone know at all how to go about taking the old headunit out?

Saj - How much are you selling the headunit for?

oldfart18 - I believe the headunit doesnt come with a lock code stored on it at factory. However, it it's asking you for the code and you don't know it, I would ask Toyota direct.

Radio coding

Thanks for that, I'll give it a go.

The radio does come with a code, which we know (I think), it's just a matter of pressing the right buttons to get it to work.

So thanks again for that, I'll give it a go tomorrow.

i have a corolla ascent sedan it still has the stock headunit cd player, i was thinking of removing it and adding a custom headunit such as sony do you think that its worth the trouble?

i found the stock head unit in my sportivo pretty ****. Knew i wanted to upgrade, but wanted to retain double din configuration.

ended up going with a pioneer unit from ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-Pioneer-FH-P605...A1%7C240%3A1318

pretty happy with the end result. back lights are blue whih some peoiple might not like . . but the deck has a setting that allows the back light to turn off after 3 seconds of inactivity.

has full ipod control etc. i cut out a little hole out of the centre consol which allowed me to run the usb cable through, means i can mount the ipod in the storage compartment below the clock/climate control

its just running the stock speakers at the moment, they actually sound pretty good. Also added a 2 chan amp and pioneer 12 inch sub. Bit of a budget system which im sure audiofiles will say sucks, but sounds good enough for me to enjoy !

anyways heres a pic of it installed in the car

yeah it is pretty haha, your headunit is big i was thinking of buying the smaller custom ones that cost around 100-200 dollars but then it would cost another 100 for them to take out the stock headunit and put in the new one
