Getting a Sera. Need Help & Advice.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am from Perth WA, I found a Toyota Sera for sale and I got the RAC to check it and it is in pretty bad shape.

According to the report, the vehicle is classified as unroadworthy. It has heavy vibration through vehicle (which I suspect might be from the faulty engine mounts), engine oil leaks, transmission fluid leaks, missaligned gear selection indicator, faulty power steering pump, faulty front shock absorbers, cracked windscreen, Inoperative LH brake lights and high beam lights and cracked LH reversing light and tail light.

Here are the main parts I guess I have to replace:

1.Front, Lower and Upper Engine Mount.

2.Heater Hose (Manifold Area).

3.LH Front Inner CV Sealing Boot.

4.LH & RH Front Outer CV Sealing Boot.

5.All Transmission Mountings.

6.Power Steering Pump.

7.Front Shock Absorbers.

8.Windscreen.

9.Cracked Reverse Lights.

I called Toyota and other than the front shock absorbers (expensive), the rest are no longer in production. What should I do? Will it cost a lot to replace the parts and get the car back in shape?

Thanks.

A lot of the bits are shared with the locally delivered EL44 Paseo and some with an EP82 Starlet. If you can do the work yourself and it's under $1k I'd say get it. Don't go genuine for parts or you're just going to get raped for every cent you have. Suspension and whatnot should all be aftermarket. Windscreen will be a pain.

I know a guy up here with a wrecked Sera in his front yard, I'm sure he could be persuaded to part with some bits for the right price.
