Hey guys,

I have a '00 ZR (have only had her for a few months) and just wanted to know whether I should be concerned about a faint belt noise (faint squeal/whine) that is present when I start the engine, and remains for a little while while driving? It's barely noticeable, but it bugs me.

It is completely quiet once the engine has warmed... the belt looks fine (no easily visible cracks or damage, but I am no mechanic).

Cheers,

Rose

How loose is the belt? May just need to be tightened up a little

The 7th Gen models use serpentine belts with hydraulic tensioners...

If the belt looks to be in ok condition, check the tensioner for leaks and make sure the belt tension is sufficient... If not, the tensioner could be stuffed...

Also, try lubricating the belt...

Temporary fix would be a can of Belt Grip. CRC product in a green can with black lid IIRC. Will stop the belt from slipping. Of course you should get it checked, especially if it gets worse, but BG should fix the "faint" slipping.
