Correct me if i'm wrong but i think...

The heavier gear knob is meant to reduce the effort required to change gears.

Using a short shifter, actually means that you increase the effort required to change gears by simple physics.

1. Lowering the shifter by 2.5", means that you'll have less leverage

2. Increasing the fulcrum point height to reduce the shift movement, also means less leverage

Therefore the heavier gear knob in principle is to offset this increase in effort.

This is pretty much spot on. The heavy gear knob acts as a counterweight when shifting.

I think a lighter gear knob gives your better 'feel' whereas a weighted knob numbs the shifting abit. But I think with our boxes a weighted shifter works far better.

Hi Kenji,

I was wondering it you happen to have the part number for both the twm short shifter kit and the gear knob. Im interested in ordering this exact combo too.

Also, do you have any photos to show the new height with the new short shifter in?

Cheers

It is the 2003-2008 Corolla on the twmperformance website. The gear knob is the satin big type R with pattern 3 engraved.

You can pick any of the shifter knobs as with the ntis tech they all fit. Height can be adjusted to whatever height you want

with their ntis gear knobs. But if you still require a picture I can take one tomorrow and post it up

Would it be possible to install a short shifter in the 08 ZRE? I've had a thought about it and it seems like a massive headache, ripping the panels around it and being set up so high wouldn't make installation easy.

Not sure if the ZRE is the same as the american 08+ corolla. You'd have to check with twm if their Short shifter would fit.

With most japanese cars, it is usually quite easy to take apart the centre console and dash instruments and popping out the

shifter wouldn't be too hard. If the twm short shifter were to fit, then instructions would be included.

I highly doubt it. American version is a 5 speed, ours is a 6 speed.

Your best bet is actually emailing them to find out.

Yes, but from my experience a few things between the ZRE in America/Asia is not compatible with the Australian version.

Moreover,

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in TWM Performance products. The 2009 (north

american) Corolla is available in both 5 and 6 speed (XRS) versions. We

have tested our short shifter on the 5 speed and we have had customers

installing it in the 6 speed as well since the shifter assembly is the

same for both cars.

We did not have any Australian customers testing this product yet. If you

are able to remove the stock shift knob, shift boot and center console (as

described in the installation manual available on our site) and take

pictures of the shifter and shifter assembly, we could take a look at it

and confirm if it's the same as the north american version. If you are

interesting in doing so, we could also offer you a discount on the short

shifter.

However, please note that if the Australian 6 speed 2009 Corolla is

equipped with a reverse lockout mechanism (if there is a lever to pull up

or if you have to push down on the shifter to get in reverse), our short

shifter will not fit.

Thanks,

Frank

TWM Performance

This ends the query of whether or not it fits.
