Hi guys i really need some help.

I have a Toyota Corolla SECA AE92 - With the 4A-FC Engine in it. For a while now it has been playing up, it has a really erratic idle it sounds like its missing a beat constantly and when its driven it pings a lot. There is a chance that the fuel could be the cause of the pinging. But ill get to that part later, i just really want to know how to fix this problem.

I have looked over the engine and There is a small valve (Called the: BVSV - Bimetal Vacuum Switching Valve) underneath the distributor which we found to be broken, we replaced it and the engine when its started runs pretty smooth, once the engine gets to normal operating temp it runs really erratically and has tons of trouble decelerating the RPM. When you watch the Tacho, the needle is not steady, its going up and down and will only stay still when the engine is first started. The only problems that occur while driving is the pinging sound, other than that there is nothing wrong.

PLEASE HELP ME GUYS!! :(

Sounds like there is an air leak somewhere, possibly a gasket, so try starting the car and when it starts running erratically, stick your head under the bonnet, look around the top of the block and have a listen for any sucking noises. If so, take it to any mechanic they should be able to pinpoint the problem and fix it for you.

That pinging sound is a lean mix in ur engine.

I had the exact same engine bro and i know what u mean but i had the pinging only. u just need to get a mecahnic to to make the mixture a bit richer but retarding the timing on it. i might be wrong but have a look at the timeing with a timing light and see if the 1st cyl is firing early or what.

also just a helpful hint if u arent in a cold area the black pipe from the heat sheald to the air intake isnt needed. and u might wanan take the vaccume pipe of that valve that is in the airintake to make it cold air not hot air from the engine. it will improve the cars performance.

give us the heads up if u have any issues
