Hi, how come after every time I fill the tank (full tank and almost overflowing already!!), the display will normally show around 496kms left to go (or sometimes 500kms). But the full tank specification of Kluger KX-R is 72 liters, right? Computing it, so it means the fuel economy is roughly 14.5L/100km (72L/496kms)?!

Is that display accurate and reliable? How did it arrive to that “496kms to go” figure? My average before I made a full tank is being displayed as 11.5L/100km...

km's to go is always going to be an estimate right?

Sorry for stating the obvious, but the car doesn't know what sort of fuel economy you will be experiencing for the current tank (it doesn't know if you will get stuck in peak hour traffic or whether you will go on a long distance cruise).

So it will give you a rough estimate of how many km's left.

I would think as the current tank gets more used it will be able to provide you with a more accurate estimate of remaining KM as it will be able to base it on the fuel economy experienced on the current tank and / or the current, instantaneous fuel consumption.

Having said that, many have reported that even when the KM's remaining reads 0km, there is still a significant amount of fuel left in the tank.. enough to drive around for a while more.

if u wanna acturate calculation u have to work it out from the following formula

100/total km travelled before filling up X Litres of fuel pumped in (full)

u'll get average fuel consumption = L/100kms

I don't think thats what TheBroker was asking... but in terms of fuel consumption, I think you will find that the figure displayed by the car will be the most accurate.

Servo pumps are rarely totally accurate, and ambient temperature can affect the volume you have filled up.

I've had servo pumps (I won't mention the name) over reading by 5 - 10 Litres on 4 separate occasions, at two different servos. You can fill in a form and have them check calibration, but I haven't gotten anywhere with that so far.

I once drove ~50 Km more once the Km to go reached 0. And when filling the tank, I still had ~ 4 liters to go (at and average of 14Km/L, that's ~28 Km).

But, I won't risk it further!

The following is how it all works on the Aurion, but I'm sure it would be the same for you.

You 'Cruising Range' is calculated based on a combination of your average fuel consumption (hence why the km's can count down faster or slower than actual), and the total readable fuel on the gauge. You fuel gauge will read (due to it's design) about 80%-85% of the fuel in your tank so therefore, from full to empty, it would only read about 57.6-61.2 litres. Therefore, if it says you have a cruising range of 496km, this would equate to an average fuel consumption of about 11.6-12.2l/100km. It tends to start a little bit off like that, but as you start to clock up the kilometres, the Cruising Range starts to become a little more accurate to what is expected for those 57 or so litres.

You will find that if you were to drive after your fuel gauge reaches empty and your Cruising Range says '0km', you could easily get another 50-80km or so of travel.
