Hello,

Can anyone help me with a cruise control fault? callers cruise control no longer brakes when the cruise stork is held in the negative position. This was such a great feature as when you needed to reduce speed on a step hill you could without touching the brake pedal. Since having mh transmission whine fixed this no longer works. Technicians have looked at the car for 2 days and can not dignose fault. Can anyone help or has anyone had this problem?

Thanks

I have never heard of using the cruise control to brake. I think you are trying to say reset or cancel the cruise control.

So when you pull the stick towards yourself the cruise control doesn't cancel?

Hi Buffhamster

No mistake, i probably haven't described the action to well though. On the V6 Ravs fitted with Stability control they have a system which can decrease the speed of the vehicle by way of "Brake operation" as the Toyota Owners manual puts it. Page 139.... Resetting cruise speed! When the Cruise Control Stork is held down in the Negative postion the vehicle will slow down even when proceeding down a steep hill.

There is also a Vacuum sound from underneath the bonnet which l'm told is the ABS module oprating to activate the braking. Toyota technicians didnt believe me until they were experienced it themselves in another model.

The long and short of it however is, Toyota Australia still maintain there vehicles do not brake on cruise control and never have even though my vehicle use to act in this manner and it even says so in black and white in there owners manual. And in ever other manual l have seen. The funny thing is Toyota are now being very careful in there response as they are still unable to tell me exactly how the system works. This does not really surprise me. I suspect the ABS module is faultly, being computer operated this is the only device that could control this feature.

If anyone can verify this action in a 2008 model V6 i would love to hear from you.

I've had a zr6 since new 2008 and it's never braked to decrease speed when on cruise, going down hill it just speeds up then slows on the flat.

I havent heard of the braking thingy with Cruise control either.

I know the Rav might have a down hill assist function but not sure how that works.

Ausportivo, were you holding the negative speed stork down without letting it up while traveling down hill?

My car is 2009 spec and i have driven other 2009 which have this feature maybe there was a change in 2009!

RonnyBoy down hill assist is controlled by the ABS module as is Hill Assist. I have been told by Toyota this is computer controlled! This is what also controls the cruise function..Try reading Page 139 or Resetting cruise control! Pay extra attention to cars fitted with Stability control.

Its really frustating because l have been a mechanic for 15 years and worked for manufactures before and i know how hard it is to get information out of them! Eg. wiring diagram.... Will keep you all posted thanks for the feedback, l'm currently waiting for Toyota to come back to me on the DPR on the correct functionality.

Cheers

No (manual braking to reduce speed if you have to)

The down hill assist function only works below 25km/h in low

or reverse when the DAC is switched on

I'm not talking about down hill assist and I'm aware it only works under 25kmh.

I am trying to say when cruise is set at say 100 kmh and your traveling on let's say a flat road if you holding the cruise control lever down and don't let it up the system will reduce speed quickly due to brake operation! Read page 139 of your owners manual!

Since having work carried out on my vehicle this feature doesn't work anymore!

Mine has always worked as yours now works, never as in second paragraph on page 139

Okay, Toyota's latest is to tell me this feature is production specific! What a pile of hog wash, I believe they still have trouble with there Abs modules as they did in 06 models and Aurions. It amazing for such a large company to still be so successful considering there attitude towards the everyday Toyota owner! Thanks for your patients, maybe your car should have this feature as well? I'll tell you it's great when working properly.

My ZR6 is 2008 model. I can confirm that the when pressing and holding the "decrease speed" function on the cruise control stalk while crusing, the brakes will kick in (even the brake lights will come on). It's not a feature I use often though. What I really want is a system that will automatically brake while going downhill while curise is on to maintain a set speed.

Well Folks, We have a result....Toyota have fixed the fault after i pulled some strings and aquired the wokshop manual which indicated this vehicle was fitted which such a system.

The biggest possible faced was no in Toyota had heard of this system and the workshop manual didn't tell them how to diagnose... After several weeks they sent some guru out who simply reset the ecu or cruise system somehow and hey pesto...it works again!

If you have a simpliar fault! This system is referred to as a passive braking system. Which is activated through cruise control. I can also confirm that any V6 Rav fitted with "VSC" should have this passive braking working, if not take it to Toyota to have fixed....

Thanks to all for the feedback..
