i have a 2001 celica with the 1zz-fed engine it's drinking LOTS of oil and i wont to do an engine swop i have found a good low miles 2009 TOYOTA AVENSIS 1.8 ENGINE TYPE 2ZR-FAE engine for 750.00 pounds.

(1)dous anyone know if this engine will fit and what elts i would need to buy to fit it to my celica ie (ecu or wiring harness)

(2)dous anyone know any place that would do this swop and for how much

the 2zr-fae looks the same as the 1zz-fe or 1zz-fed

i have serched online & Google for info about this engine swop but have found no info about it other than on Wikipedia & it says that the 2ZR-FAE is to replace the 1ZZ-FED engine in most applications .

thanks to any1 who can help

What would fit better and be of more advantage to you would be to try and get your hands on a 2ZZ-GE. Otherwise im my opinion, you would just be better off putting a replacement 1ZZ into it than going through the trouble to put a 2ZR instead.

thanks for the reply i have looked into getting using a 2zz-ge but from what i have read the newer 2zr-fae engine has better fuel economy and 10% to 15% more power than the 1zz-fe

Just because the 2ZR is the replacement engine doesn't mean it has the same mounting points and bolt pattern for the gearbox. Easiest way is to put another 1zz-fe in (Celica never came with the 1zz-fed, only the MR-S did). Don't bother with the 2zz-ge unless you will replace the gearbox with the 6 speed (C60), the engine won't stay on cam with the 5 speed box between gears.

As for price of the swap, it depends on your location (England I assume?). No one here can give an estimate on labour rates overseas. In Australia you would be paying between $80 and $150 per hour. You'll also need the ECU and someone to wire it all into each other. Most likely you'll end up running two ECUs to control everything.

If it is using oil it might just need new rings, this will take a lot less time to change. Have you taken it to a mechanic/Toyota for them to diagnose?

thanks dave.

im australian but im living in notrhern ireland i need to get the car into top shape as i intend to drive it back to australia next year

All European models of the gen7 celica have the 6-speed & eather 1zz-fed or 2zz-ge . the 2zz-ge is not a parth i would like to go down eather so its eather the 2zr-fae which i would like if it can be done, or just do a swop for a low miles 1zz-fed. the oil usige affects 1999 to 2003 models and and toyota have said that the only way to fix it is to eather get a NEW ENGINE BLOCK or replace the engine with a 2003 or newer engine at the moment its using about 1000mls of oil every 700miles

I see now.

I haven't heard of anyone putting a 2ZR into a 7th gen before, doesn't mean it can't be done. Easiest option would be another post 03 1zz. Might be worthwhile getting a second opinion from a Toyota specialist workshop as a Toyota would have a vested interst in selling you a whole new engine for $4k. Second hand 1zz here are about $5-800.

Sounds like a thirsty engine too :P
