Hey Guys, I wanna do some custom work on the intake. Would 10mm or 15mm perspex work as a heat shield? Any TRD owners use HKS or Injen intakes yet? Reviews? I am just sketching up plans now. Cheers!

I'd use polycarbonate before using perspex as it's far more durable and unlikely to become brittle. 10 or 15mm will also likely be thick enough to withstand engine bay temps.

I used standard ABS plastic sheeting, only 2mm thick and mine is keeping shape well

Thanks Steve, next dumb question, where would I find sheets of polycarbonate? How much of the old intake did you take out? Looking under the hood today, seems like there will be an odd looking void if I gut it all.

I used to go to a supplier located out at Brendale, but the name eludes me sorry - I'm sure you could find a supplier in the yellow pages though.

Mind you I wouldn't recommend polycarbonate, as even though it would work it will take a LOT of working and shaping etc and might not even look that good.

If you look at my thread here where I used ABS, you can see how I designed my heatshield to remove any "void" that would be left. To answer your question I removed the entire factory intake.

You are a legend, cheers. Nice work btw, looks good.
