Aurion LED mirror mod Finished!

Recommended Posts

Vic left me his old black mirrors to play with.

Was going to just add some rows of amber LEDs on the outside but thanks to Pete and Thomas i'll add some puddle lights and sexy arrow behind the mirror.

that will be the first mod making and installing the mirror arrow

Ive gone for a single row arrow

Cheers Van :) but soz no slowing down mate :)

Cheers Pete :) played around with the "winker" part today, i'm keen to maybe grab a coupla those relays you linked, but from what i can work out they are 90bux au each? and im not sure if i need one or 2 relays to do both mirrors?

Thomas found a ebay seller that sells the complete blinker unit so i may end up just going for that :)

This is just Vic's old busted blinker, so no harm ripping it apart for a test,

First vid shows prolly how i'll run these, as basic flash.

But hooking a relay allows some fancier strobes.

Cheers Van ,Yep that one has a switchable strobes, about 8 diff effects, the one that you see is just the first default effect. That's the one you see when it is first powered up.

I'm not too keen on it tbh. But that can be fixed with another relay.

Thomas's linky :)

One side done and installed :D

I ended up going with a different design, one that's very to to repeat for the other side and for others.

Anyways it's a few extra pics now soz but i'm sure everyone can see the benefits of doing it this way :D

This time i used some clear plex as the new internal mount. Very easy to cut heat and bend to the correct shape.

IMG_5622.jpg

IMG_5623.jpg

This time rather than spending ages making a LED panel, i'll use a amber LED strip, cut it in half and add some new wires to make a double row of lights.

These strips cost 5bux cheaper online if you buy bulk.

IMG_5624.jpg

Once i solder wires on heat shrink it up it looks like just the factory one :D

IMG_5625.jpg

IMG_5626.jpg

Thanks to them already being 3M taped it's just a matter of sticking them onto the back board.

IMG_5628-Copy.jpg

To finish it of and make the unit look neat and also helps to hold the strips in place i'm adding some black heat shrink to the ends.

IMG_5631.jpg

IMG_5632.jpg

A little notch is added for the wires to fold neatly round to the back

IMG_5634.jpg

The finished unit, much much simpler than and hour of soldering LEDs to a board.

Next a quiky test and seal the unit back up again.

IMG_5654.jpg

The new assembly just snaps into the old blinker housing

the cutout is cleaned up and hot glued back into place

SWEEETT TOP STUFF you have done well there, it's come up awesome as! :toast:

Cheers mate ty :D Not quiet factory but fills the weekends in nicely :D

To sum my thoughts up in one word, awesome!

How do you get the led's to shine through the mirror glass? is it one way glass or something like that?

Yer, there is a little square section inside thats left as oneway, all you have to do is put light behind.

From the looks of it, there would be a factory module that just clips in.

It looks awesome, nice work.

Cheers Mate tyvm :D
